#7 ST. ELMO/BROWNSTOWN EAGLES
Coach: Greg Feezel
Record at Seeding: 9-9, 1-4 NTC

by DUSTIN WHITE

Who knows how much St. Elmo/Brownstown boys basketball coach Greg Feezel appreciates anybody pointing it out, but in his 20th year on the job the Eagles’ coach is easily the “Dean of NTC Coaches” with Altamont’s John Niebrugge and St. Anthony’s Cody Rincker running six and seven years behind him, respectively.

Feezel’s SEB squad went into seeding with a .500 mark overall and just one victory in five conference games, garnering the No. 7 seed in the 90th Annual National Trail Conference Tournament.

“Overall, we are a very competitive team that plays hard,” said Feezel. “We have played some really good teams so far this year.”

Junior Graidon Wilhour paces SEB’s scoring with 14.8 points per game, while senior Jayden Hughett and junior Benji Lowe are both right around 10 a game and do some of the best rebounding work.

“Jack Wilhour is our defense guy and Dodge Willms runs the show for us as a point guard,” added Feezel. Both are juniors. “Our strengths are quickness and defense.”

Both Wilhours were varsity contributors a year ago along with since-graduated Lowell Wilhour, while a new Wilhour, Nolan, is dressing for this year’s varsity team. In case you were wondering, there are several more Wilhours in the junior high program.

(In case you’re even nosier – like the author of this piece – you might even randomly ask the SEB junior high bookkeeper “what’s the story with all the Wilhours?” and find out there are five Wilhour brothers who all have kids making their way through school right now. Lots of brothers and cousins will play, have played or are playing ball in Eagles uniforms.)

The No. 7 seed means Feezel’s Eagles must begin the tournament in the play-in round against 10th-seeded South Central in an effort to buck the last four years’ trend of finishing exactly where they were seeded – eighth in 2022, sixth in 2023, fourth in 2024, and seventh last year.
