Effingham split victories with Carbondale in freshman/sophomore A and B boys basketball action Thursday.
The Hearts won the A contest 57-55. The two teams were tied at 15-15 after the opening quarter. Carbondale moved ahead 34-29 at halftime but Effingham came back with a 28-21 second half for the victory.
Joel Flack led the Hearts with 24 points.
In the B game, Carbondale was a 48-44 winner. Carbondale led 33-26 at halftime. Effingham moved within 42-39 going into the final quarter but Carbondale had a 6-5 edge.
Bryce Hodges led Effingham with eight points.
