BROWNSTOWN — The top-ranked team in the Class 1A State girls basketball poll, added another victim to its win column Thursday evening as Brownstown/St. Elmo trounced Altamont 57-18.

The Bombers ran out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead as five players scored. Dayana Haslett put in five points while Presley Williams connected on four free throws.

The lead went to 39-7 at halftime. Haslett went on a run, scoring two regular baskets, two three-pointers and was four of four at the line for 14 points while Danika Ramsey hit two three-pointers.

Haslett continued on with four more baskets in the third quarter and finished with 29 to lead the Bombers. She connected on 11 field goals, three from beyond the arc, and was four of four at the line. Williams chipped in with nine and Ramsey added eight.

Altamont was led by Justyce Higgs with nine on three three-pointers. The Indians dropped to 5-3 in the National Trail Conference and 9-9 overall.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont was a 27-9 winner. The Indians were led by Higgs with eight and Keely Fleeharty with seven.

BSE was led by Audria Logue with four.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to South Central as two National Trail Conference teams met Thursday evening. The Hatchets came out a 54-24 winner.

Windsor/Stew-Stras’ Kendra Hayes went on a tear in the opening quarter. She connected on three from beyond the arc and two regular field goals for 13 points while Clarissa Johnson hit a three-pointer.

The lead went to 34-13 at halftime. Hayes and Johnson added another three each.

The scoring calmed down in the second half as the Hatchets had an 8-7 third quarter and finished with a 12-4 final period.

Hayes was the lone player in the contest in double figures. She hit seven field goals for 18 points. The Hatchets connected on nine three-pointers.

South Central was led by Lauren Johnson with eight field goals on four free throws.

Three players hit double figures as Cumberland pounded Arcola 70-34 Thursday evening.

The Pirates edged out to a 20-16 opening quarter lead behind Jude Miller’s nine points while Ashton Tolen added six and Raegan Jones connected on a three-pointer.

The lead went to 42-22 at halftime. Miller continued on with three regular baskets, a free throw and a three-pointer for 12 points while Jade Carr added a three and three free throws for six and Jones put in another three.

Alysa Dittamore went on a third quarter tear, scoring 12 points while Jones hit two more threes.

Miller led the way with 25 points on 10 field goals, two from beyond the arc, and three of four at the line. Jones added 18 points on six three-pointers and Dittamore finished with 15.

At Arcola

Teutopolis whipped out to a 26-6 opening quarter lead and defeated Flora, 74-25 Thursday evening.

The Shoes’ Sophia Martin scored nine points while five other players hit the net.
Eva Mette led the Shoes in the secon quarter with eight points while Kelsey Niemerg added six.

Niemerg tallied six more in the third quarter as the Shoes led 64-25.

Five players finished in double figures for T-town. Niemerg led the way with seven field goals for 14 points. Mette added 12, Martin 11, Anna Probst 11 and Allie Ruholl 10.

Eva Mette led the team in rebounds with five. Kelsey Niemerg led in steals with seven.

At Teutopolis

Dieterich took a 13-4 opening quarter lead and went on for a 44-30 win over Charleston Thursday evening.

The Movin’ Maroons held a 24-13 halftime lead and led 35-17 going into the final quarter.

Addison Miller led the team in scoring with 15 points on six field goals that included three from beyond the arc. Lena Goebel chipped in with nine and seven total players scored.

In junior varsity play, Charleston was a 34-26 winner. Kensi Stortzum and Violet Iffert scored seven points each for the Maroons.

At Newton

Four players scored in double figures as Newton handed Shelbyville a 71-40 loss Thursday evening.

The Eagles moved into a 20-12 opening quarter lead and led 42-26 at halftime.

Grace Schumacher hit nine field goals, one a three-pointer, to lead the Eagles with 19 points. Izzy Meinhart added 17, Claire Probst 11 and Allie Hermann 10.

Maddie Brummer led in rebounds with seven while G. Schumacher had six. Alani Bergbower and Hermann led in assists with five each. Bergbower had seven steals and G. Schumacher six.

Newton improves to 13-7 on the season and is back in action Saturday at the Little Illini Conference Tournament where the Eagles will meet Robinson at Marshall at 2:30 p.m.

In junior varsity play, Newton won 24-6. Gentry tallied eight for the winners who improved to 6-6.
