Taylorville took the early lead then had to hold off Effingham for a 57-52 win in overtime Friday evening.
The Tornadoes ran out to a 17-9 opening quarter lead as Brock Brown hit eight points, two of those coming from three-point range.
But the Hearts clawed back into the contest with a 11-7 second period to only trail 24-20 at halftime. Jenner Pals scored six points while Jude Traub and Brady McDaniel tallied five each.
The Hearts had a 19-16 third quarter as Pals scored 11 of the team’s 19 points. but Taylorville came back with a 16-10 final quarter to tie the score at 49-49 sending the contest into overtime. That’s where they won the game.
Pals finished as the only double digit performer for the Hearts with 21 points on seven field goals with three coming from beyond the arc, and four free throws.

At St. Anthony
Effingham St. Anthony fell in overtime to Bloomington Central Catholic, 62-59 Friday evening.
The Bulldogs trailed 17-11 after the opening quarter but pulled back within 29-27 at halftime.
But BCC had a 13-12 third period to lead 42-39 going into the final quarter.
In that final period, the Bulldogs came back with a 17-14 rally to tie the game, sending it into overtime. Keenan Griffith went on a run, scoring 11 points in that period, hitting three baskets, two of those three-pointers, and three of four at the line.
But Bloomington Central Catholic had a 6-3 overtime run to pull out the victory.
St. Anthony had three players in double figures. Griffith led the way with 20 points on seven field goals, three of those three-pointers, and three of seven at the line. Miles Waldhoff added 17 and Aiden Lauritzen 12.
