 Hearts Capture 68-42 victory over Rams In Girls H.S. Basketball

MOUNT VERNON — Coach Jeff Schafer’s girls high school basketball team put together 68 points in handing Mount Vernon a 26-point loss Wednesday evening.

The Hearts edged out to an 18-11 opening quarter lead as Alyssa Martin put together four baskets and two of two at the line for 10 points while teammate Averie Wolfe hit four baskets for eight.

The lead went to 34-21 at halftime. Martin contributed another six points while Tessa Raddatz chipped in with five.

Wolfe hit two three-pointers and a regular basket in the third quarter for eight while McKenzie Love finished with six.

The Hearts then had a 17-9 final quarter to finish with the 68-42 victory.

EHS had three players hit the double digit mark. Wolfe led the way with 22 points on nine field goals that included two three-pointers and was one of two at the line. Martin added 19 points on seven field goals and five of six at the line. Raddatz contributed 10.

The freshmen/sophomore and junior varsity teams also claimed victories for the Hearts.

EHS improved to 15-2 on the season. The Hearts are back in action Friday evening in a Mega Night at EHS.  They will play host to Taylorville with the girls game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys to follow at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.
