 Teutopolis Pounds Monticello In High School Boys Basketball

TEUTOPOLIS — The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis ran out to a 24-7 opening quarter lead on Monticello and that was the game. T-town went on for a 71-49 victory over the Sages Tuesday evening in boys high school basketball in a game heard on 979XFM.

In that opening quarter run, six players scored. Landyn Buening connected on two three-pointers while Jason Kreke and Gavin Buening added four each. Isaac McWhorter and Gavin Addis knocked in a three-pointer each and the Shoes were off and running.

T-town held a 39-18 halftime lead. Joey Probst, who hadn’t scored in that opening quarter run, led the way in the second period with seven points and McWhorter nailed another three. G. Buening hit four of four at the line.

T-town substituted freely in the third and fourth quarters. All 14 players had time on the court with 11 of those getting points. Leading the way was Addis with five field goals that included a three-pointer, for 12 points. Landyn Thoele was next with nine while Jo. Probst, Kreke and G. Buening finished with eight each.

T-town hit 50 percent from the field for the game with 28 of 56 and were 66.7 percent from the free throw line with six of nine. The Shoes outrebounded Monticello by a 18-8 tally. Both teams had five turnovers.

The Shoes are now 13-2 on the season and won’t be back in action until next Tuesday when they play host to St. Joseph-Ogden.

T-town also captured the junior varsity contest by a 73-30 score.

All 13 players also competed in the JV contest. Andy Lustig led the way with 10 points while Bryce Niebrugge and Jake Kocher had nine each.
