VANDALIA — Brownstown/St. Elmo put together a 75-44 non-conference girls high school basketball victory over Vandalia Monday evening.
BSE opened up a 29-12 first quarter lead as Dayana Haslett connected on six baskets, one a three-pointer, and one free throw for 14 of those points. Danika Ramsey added a three-pointer and Madi Miller had four baskets for eight.
Ollie Whitehead hit eight of Vandalia’s 10 points.
In the second quarter, the lead went to 53-22 at halftime. Haslett added another seven points while Presley Williams and Addie Sasse chipped in with six each. The Eagles connected on 12 of 13 free throws in the first half.
Bella Walk helped Vandalia to a 14-10 third quarter but the Vandals still trailed 63-36 going into the final period. Walk hit a regular basket, two three-pointers and was two of two at the line for 10 points.
BSE finished out with a 12-8 final quarter run. Haslett added another eight points and finished with a total of 31 points for the game. She hit 13 field goals, two from three-point range, and was three of three at the line.
Also in double figures were three more players for the Bombers. Miller added 13 while Williams finished with 12 and Sasse tallied 10.
Vandalia was led by Walk with 21 and Whitehead with 20.
Brownstown/St. Elmo won over Vandalia 22-6 in one quarter of junior varsity play.

At Arthur
Effingham St. Anthony improved to 10-6 on the season with a 46-24 win over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Monday evening.
The Bulldogs edged out to a 10-6 first quarter lead as Nancy Ruholl connected for five points.
St. Anthony then went on a run, outscoring ALAH 17-6 for a 27-8 halftime lead. Ruholl put in seven points on three baskets that included a three-pointer. Ali Kollmann added four points.
Addie Lauritzen took over the scoring in the third quarter with four baskets for eight points and the Bulldogs led 40-10 going into the final quarter.
Ruholl finished with 21 points on eight field goals, two from three-point range, and was three of four at the line. Also in double digits was Lauritzen with 14 on seven field goals.
Lauritzen led in rebounds with 10. Lilly Gannaway had six assists and three steals.
The Bulldogs aren’t back in action until Saturday at Flora with 10 a.m. start.

At Altamont
Three players scored in double figures while 12 total tallied points in a 68-31 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday evening.
Altamont moved into a 23-12 opening quarter lead as Ella Nelson put in two three-pointers while Ada Roberts led with seven points on a regular basket, a three-pointer and two free throws. Alyssa Ruholl added three baskets for six.
WSS was led by Kendra Hayes with a three-pointer and three of four at the line for six while Clarissa Johnson hit a three.
The lead went to 39-24 at halftime. Nelson again connected on two three-pointers in the quarter.
Hayes scored five more points for the Hatchets.
Altamont then had a 29-7 second half to finish strong.
The Indians were led by Nelson with 15 points on five field goals, four of those three-pointers, and one of two at the line. Roberts added 13 and Ruholl 10.
Altamont improved to 4-1 in the conference and is 8-6 overall. The Indians are back in action Thursday against South Central.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Hayes with 13 points on four field goals, two from three-point range, and three of four at the line.
Altamont won the junior varsity game, 49-12.

At Newton
Newton ran out to a 23-6 opening quarter lead and led 37-10 at halftime over Neoga.
The Eagles went on for a 67-39 victory.
Three players finished in double figures for the winners. Grace Schumacher led the way in scoring with 18 points on eight field goals and two of two at the line. Allie Hermann added 14 points and Maddie Brummer 13.
The Eagles were led in rebounding by Claire Probst with 11 and assists with five. Alani Bergbower had seven steals and Hermann six.
Newton improves to 11-6 on the season and will play host to Lawrenceville Thursday at 6 p.m. for a varsity-only game.
Neoga was led by Malory Henderson with 11 points on three field goals and four of four at the line. She was the lone player in double figures. The Indians drop to 5-10 on the season and will host Charleston Thursday at Lake Land College.
Newton also claimed the junior varsity contest, 44-20. Gentry led Newton with 11 as the team improved to 4-6.

Cumberland pushed into a big halftime lead and went on for a 62-34 victory over Dieterich Monday evening.
The Pirates led 15-8 in the first period as Jade Carr put in five points. Addison Miller led Dieterich with five.
But Cumberland outdistanced Dieterich 11-3 in the second quarter for a 26-11 halftime lead. Raegan Jones scored five.
Carr then went to work in the third quarter, scoring nine points on three regular baskets and a three-pointer. Jude Miller connected for seven points and the lead stood at 50-23 going into the final period.
Miller added six more points to her tally in the final quarter and finished with 19 to lead the Pirates. She hit eight field goals, one from three-point range, and was two of four at the line. Carr added 16 points on seven field goals, two three-pointers.
Ashton Tolen, Jones and Alysa Dittamore were the only other players scoring with nine points each.
Dieterich was led by Miller with 12 points on five field goals, two from three-point range. She also led in rebounds with eight, assists with two and blocked shots with three. Callier Faller had two assists. Lena Goebel had three steals.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged South Central by a 47-41 count Monday evening.
The Bobcats ran out to a 15-9 opening quarter lead as Carissa Wakefield scored eight points while Ethel Stuckemeyer added seven.
South Central trailed 26-19 at halftime but had a 13-11 third quarter and finished with a 10-9 final period but still fell short.
CHBC’s Stuckemeyer finished the contest with 24 points on seven field goals and 10 of 16 at the line. Also in double figures was Lena Bowlin with 14. The Bobcats shot 35 free throws, hitting 17. The Bobcats connected on six of 15 free throws.
The Bobcats improved to 2-11 on the season and are back in action today, hosting Dieterich starting at 6 p.m.
South Central was led by Perci Reid and Zoey Feldhake with 13 each. Reid hit six field goals and one of two at the line while Feldhake connected on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was two of six at the line.
