 Effingham Wins Olney Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament

OLNEY — Effingham captured the championship of the Olney Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts won over Marshall 54-23. EHS moved into an 18-8 opening quarter lead as six players scored. The lead went to 28-15 at halftime.

Ian Kinkelaar tallied 13 points while Maxwell Love added 10.

The Hearts then handed Fairfield a 53-33 loss.

EHS held a 25-21 halftime lead then had a 14-2 third period run to put the game away.

Love scored 19 points on eight field goals and three free throws. Dagg Thompson tallied 10.

In the game against host Olney, Effingham came out a 54-31 winner and finished winning all three games for the championship.

The Hearts led 29-17 at halftime then had a 12-5 third quarter surge and ended strong.

The Hearts were led by Flack with 19 points and Love with 15.

EHS scored 50 plus points in all three games.
