Effingham claimed a 47-39 victory in eighth-grade boys basketball action Friday night.
The Mustangs trailed Lawrenceville 12-11 after the opening quarter but came back with a 14-5 second period to lead 25-17 at halftime. Effingham continued on with a 16-9 third quarter run.
Deek Thompson scored 22 points on seven field goals that included two three-pointers and was six of six at the line. Also in double digits was Justus Bridges with 14.

At Taylorville
Teutopolis won seventh- and eighth-grade games over Taylorville while splitting victories with Mahomet-Serymour. The Wooden Shoes also nabbed two wins over Casey-Westfield.
T-town won the seventh-grade contest over Taylorville 41-19, running out to a 20-7 opening half lead.
Dylann Deters scored 11 for the winners.
In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 57-35 winner. The Shoes were led by Mason Giles with 23 points and Pete Brummer with nine.
Mahomet-Seymour claimed a 48-26 win in the seventh-grade game. T-town was led by Bryson Meyer with eight points.
In the eighth-grade game, the Shoes led 23-19 at halftime then had an 18-13 second half run.
Pete Brummer scored 10 to lead the Shoes while Mason Giles added nine.
In the seventh-grade B game against Casey-Westfield, T-town was a 40-23 winner. The Shoes led 21-9 at halftime.
Cameron Kremer and Finley Witges led the Shoes with seven points each.
In eighth-grade B action, T-town ran out to a 22-4 opening quarter lead and tallied a 64-33 win over Casey-Westfield.
T-town was led in scoring by Kort Mette with 14 and Joshua Pruemer with 10.
