 Brownstown/St. Elmo Captures Dieterich Girls Holiday Tourney Crown

DIETERICH — Brownstown/St. Elmo came out the champion of the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

BSE edged out to a 21-15 lead on Cumberland. The Bombers then went on a 24-5 run in the second quarter to lead 45-20 at halftime. They finished out with a 26-11 second half.

BSE was led by Dayana Haslett with 13 field goals, three of those beyond the arc and six of six at the free throw line for 35 points. Also in double figures was Madi Miller with 14.

Cumberland was led by Jade Carr with 10 on four field goals, two of those from three point range.

In the third place contest, Dieterich was a 63-57 winner over Marshall.

The Movin’ Maroons took a 35-27 halftime lead. Marshall came back with an 18-16 third quarter to pull within 51-45 but the two teams played to a 12-12 final quarter.

Dieterich had three players hit double figures. Addison MIller led the way with eight field goals, seven of those from the three-point line, and two of four free throws for 25 points. Callie Faller chipped in with 15 and Lena Goebel added 12.

Okaw Valley finished fifth with a 54-49 win over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville while Ramsey beat Arcola 48-29 in the seventh place contest.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Erin Harris (Okaw Valley), Lena Goebel (Dieterich), Addie Sasse (BSE), Callie Faller (Dieterich), Addison Miller (Dieterich), Madi Miller (BSE), Jude Miller (Cumberland), Lynn Welborn (Marshall), Alysa Dittamore (Cumberland) and Dayana Haslett (BSE).
