ALTAMONT — Altamont High School had a good shooting night while Dieterich suffered a bad night from the field. That turned into a 57-40 victory for the homestanders as two National Trail Conference teams met in girls basketball Monday evening in a game head on KJ Country 102.3.
Altamont edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead as both teams were struggling from the field. The Indians connected on four of 12 while Dieterich was three of 12.
Altamont’s Reagan Kuenstler hit two three-pointers while Ella Nelson put in the other five points.
Meanwhile, Dieterich’s Addison Miller knocked in two from beyond the arc and Cassidy Goebel scored a basket.
Dieterich moved into a 23-22 halftime lead as five players contributed a basket each. Miller hit a field goal and a free throw.
Adilyn Schnarre connected on a three-pointer for Altamont. Alissa Ruholl hit two baskets and a free throw and Nelson added another three-pointer.
Then in the third quarter, Altamont began to find the range. Kuenstler nailed a regular basket, a three-pointer and put in two free throws for seven in the period while Nelson added another three-pointer and two free throws. Ada Roberts also knocked in two free throws while Kennedy Schultz and Schnarre had a basket each and the Indians moved ahead with an 18-8 run to lead 40-31.
Altamont continued on with a 17-9 final quarter. Roberts went to work with three baskets and four free throws for 10 of the team’s 17 points. Nelson knocked in her fourth three-pointer of the contest.
Altamont hit 18 of 43 from the field which was 41.8 percent while Dieterich struggled with 15 of 51 for only 29.4 percent. The Indians had eight three-pointers in the contest led by Nelson with four and Kuenstler with three.
Altamont improved to 3-1 in the National Trail Conference and 7-5 overall.
Dieterich dropped to 1-3 in the conference and 7-4 overall.
