LOUISVILLE — Stewardson-Strasburg won the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.
Stew-Stras edged Effingham Sacred Heart in the title contest, 26-25.
The third place game went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over Sigel St. Michael, 41-24.
CHBC held a 12-4 opening quarter lead and led 16-10 at halftime. The Sharpshooters came back with a 10-8 third quarter run to trail just 24-20.
But CHBC finished strong with a 17-4 final period run. Drake Thull led the way with 19 points. Easton Kramer chipped in with eight.
St. Michael was led by Burton, Walk and Kreke with eight each.
In the consolation championship, St. Elmo/Brownstown was a 35-25 winner over Cumberland.

At Effingham
Effingham captured an eighth-grade victory over Olney Thursday evening.
The Mustangs won 42-21. Effingham edged out to an 8-3 opening quarter lead then had a 14-5 second period run to lead 22-8 at halftime. The Mustangs finished strong with an 8-0 final quarter.
Deek Thompson led the winners with 18 points while Calvin Beck added 12. Thompson scored eight points in the second quarter while while Beck had six.
Effingham is now 10-4 on the season.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis was a winner over Jasper County in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Thursday evening.
The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest 42-18, taking a 27-11 halftime lead.
Bryson Meyer scored 16 for the winners while Noah Imburgia added nine.
Jasper County was led by Cash Collins with five points.
In the eighth-grade game, T-town won 44-13, ripping out to a 23-6 opening quarter lead and leading 31-6 at halftime.
T-town was led by Mason Giles with 11 points and Pete Brummer with eight.
Jasper County was led by Jacob Guzman with eight. Grant Frichtl was the top defender and top passer.
Jasper County is 8-8 in seventh-grade and 7-9 in eighth-grade.

At Altamont
Mulberry Grove came calling and captured a 36-32 win over Altamont in seventh-grade action Thursday evening.
Altamont held a 10-8 opening quarter lead and led 17-16 at halftime and 25-24 going into the final quarter.
That’s when Mulberry Grove broke loose for a 12-7 final period to pull out the win. Mulberry Grove’s Wagoner connected on eight of the 12 points on two baskets and two free throws in that quarter.
