HAVANA — Glasford Illini Bluffs took a 7-2 opening quarter lead on Dieterich and went on to pick up a 36-24 victory at the Class 8-2A State Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday in the third place contest.
Dieterich came back with a 4-3 second quarter to pull within 10-6 at halftime. But Illini Bluffs had a 26-18 second half run.
Mya Ohnesorge was the lone Dieterich player in double figures with 12 on five field goals and two of three at the line. Emery Bill added five points.
Dieterich ended the season with a fourth place finish at State and a 23-4 record.
Illini Bluffs finished with a 21-2 mark.
In the championship game, Springfield Christian won over Mt. Sterling Brown County, 35-30. Springfield Christian ended with a 22-3 mark while Mt. Sterling Brown County finished with a 25-3 record.
There will be a reception for the Dieterich team beginning at 4:30 p.m. as the players load the fire truck at the Blacktop. The route for the Dieterich team will be North Point — Hartke Subdivision — Vine Street — Church Street — school.
At 5 p.m. there will be a reception/gathering in the junior high gym to admire the hardware and hear the accomplishments of the team.
At 5:30’ish, photos will be taken with cake and punch served in the cafeteria.
At 7:30’ish, there will be an introduction for the eighth-grade team, coaches and others in the high school gym between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games.
