 NTC Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Finals Set, Junior High Roundup

LOUISVILLE — Three more games were contested in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

South Central was a 38-20 winner over North Clay in the opener.

In the second contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Neoga, 41-27.

The final game went to Effingham Sacred Heart over Sigel St. Michael, 36-26.

The tournament will come to a close Thursday. The consolation championship between Cumberland and St. Elmo/Brownstown will be held at 5:30 p.m.

The third place game featuring Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Sigel St. Michael will start at 6:45 p.m. and the championship game with Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham Sacred Heart will be held at 8.

 

At Newton

Teutopolis and Newton St. Thomas both picked up a victory Tuesday evening.

St. Thomas claimed a 34-23 win in the seventh-grade B game. St. Thomas held a 19-12 halftime lead.

Francis led the way for the winners with 18 points.

T-town was led by Caden Flora with seven.

In eighth-grade action, T-town won 39-20. The Shoes ran out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and had a 17-7 third period.

Joshua Pruemer led the way with 11 points as nine players scored.

Bierman led St. Thomas with five.

At Newton

Jasper County split victories with Lawrenceville Tuesday evening.

Jasper County was a 46-37 winner in the seventh-grade contest. The winners had a 20-6 second period run that Lawrenceville couldn’t overcome.

Cash Collins and Duncan Miller scored 12 points each. Miller was the top rebounder, Tristan Lingafelter the Top Defender and Rafe Thomann the Top Passer.

The seventh-grade Jasper County team is 8-7.

In eighth-grade action, Lawrenceville won 45-37.

Alex Keller was the lone Jasper County player in double figures with 14. Grant Frichtl was the Top Defender and Top Passer while Trace Cornwell was the Top Rebounder.
