Teutopolis High School ran out to a 17-5 opening quarter lead on Effingham and went on to down the Hearts 58-41 in boys basketball action Tuesday evening in a game heard on 979XFM
The Wooden Shoes’ Isaac McWhorter went on a run, nailing two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 in the opening quarter.
McWhorter continued on in the second period, nailing three more from beyond the arc for nine points and 17 at halftime.
Meanwhile, the Shoes held a 29-18 halftime lead.
Effingham’s Nolan Fearday scored three in the first quarter while Max Love led with five in the second period.
Max Buzzard led the way for the Hearts in the third quarter with five points and Jake Niebrugge added four. T-town had a 13-11 third period edge.
The Shoes then had a 20-14 final period for the win.
McWhorter hit six field goals, five of those from three-point range, for 17 points to lead T-town. Jason Kreke chipped in with nine on four field goals and a free throw.
Effingham was led by Brady McDaniel with eight points. He scored seven in the final period.
In junior varsity play, T-town was a 71-31 winner. The Shoes were led by Jake Probst with 12.
Effingham was led by Kinkelaar with seven.
