Effingham High School played host to Mount Zion in Apollo Conference action Friday evening and claimed a 57-29 girls basketball victory.
The Hearts moved into a 14-8 opening quarter lead as Averie Wolfe connected on three baskets that included a three-pointer and was three of three at the line for 10.
EHS held the Braves to only one point in the second quarter while pushing ahead 30-9. Alyssa Martin took over the scoring duties, connecting in four baskets and four baskets and two free throws for 10.
The Braves had a slight 7-5 third period. EHS finished out with a 22-13 final quarter.
Once again, Wolfe went on an offensive run, hitting two three-pointers, two regular baskets and two free throws for 12 points.
Wolfe finished with 27 points on six of eight from the field, three of four from three-point range and six of seven at the line.
Also in double digits was Martin with 16 on six field goals and four of four at the line.

At Mattoon
Cumberland came calling and captured a 47-28 victory over Neoga in Friday competition at Lake Land College.
The Pirates moved into a 13-6 opening quarter lead but Neoga rallied and came back with a 9-2 second period run to knot the score at 15-15.
But Cumberland got back on track with a 19-7 third period and finished out strong for the win.
Jude Miller led the way for the Pirates with 26 points on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers, and six of seven at the line. Alysa Dittamore also garnered double figures with 12.
Neoga was led by Malory Henderson with 14 points on five field goals and three of four at the line.
Neoga drops to 4-5 and returns to action Thursday at Brownstown/St. Elmo.

At Altamont
Altamont hosted Greenville and fell by a 40-37 tally Saturday.
Greenville edged into a 9-7 opening quarter lead and led 20-17 at halftime. Greenville still held a three-point lead, 29-26 going into the final period. Altamont rallied with an 11-9 run but couldn’t get the victory.
Altamont had two players in double figures. Avery Aldrich led the way with 14 points on six field goals and two of two at the line while Alyssa Ruholl added 14 on six field goals and two of two at the line.
