COWDEN — Effingham St. Anthony improved to 7-2 on the season with a 62-18 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in high school National Trail Conference girls basketball action Thursday.
The Bulldogs edged out to an 11-6 opening quarter lead as Nancy Ruholl hit three baskets and was two of two at the line for eight points.
Ruholl continued with 12 points in the second period while Jackie Vonderheide added four points and Ali Kollmann with three. The Bulldogs led 31-10.
St. Anthony had a 20-4 third period run. Vonderheide and Addie Lauritzen put in three baskets each for six points.
Julia Schultz was the big scorer in the final quarter with nine points on three regular baskets and a three-pointer.
Ruholl finished with 24 points on 10 baskets, two from beyond the arc, and two of two at the line.
Also in double figures was Vonderheide with10. Schultz added nine and Lauritzen eight.
Ruholl, Lilly Gannaway and Ali Kollmann pulled down seven rebounds each. Gannaway had four assists and Ruholl four steals.
The Bobcats were led by Lena Bowlin with eight points on three baskets and two of three at the line. Ethel Stuckemeyer chipped in with six.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City (1-8) will be back in action Tuesday at Vandalia.
St. Anthony improved to 4-0 in the National Trail Conference and 7-2 overall. The Bulldogs will be back in action Monday at Teutopolis in a game that can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.

At Mattoon
Neoga put together a 62-45 non-conference victory over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville Thursday evening.
The Indians moved into a 14-7 opening quarter lead and led 29-15 at halftime. OPH came back with a slight 21-19 third quarter edge but Neoga went on a 14-9 final period run.
Malory Henderson was the leading scorer for the winners with 17 points on five field goals and seven of 11 at the line. Keeli McKay hit six field goals and was two of two at the line for 14.
Chloe Frankie added 11 points while Madi Frankie was on the verge of double figures with nine.
Neoga evens its record at 4-4 and will play host to Cumberland today at Lake Land College in a Mega Night/Homecoming contest.
Neoga also was a winner in junior varsity play, 28-14.

At Martinsville
Dieterich put together 44 points to down Martinsville 44-36 in Thursday evening play.
The Maroons trailed Martinsville 11-9 after the opening quarter and 22-16 at halftime.
But Dieterich started to connect and went on a 20-4 third period run to pull ahead by 10 points. The Maroons held off Martinsville in the final period for the victory.
Addison Miller hit five field goals, three from long range, and was six of six at the line for 19 points. She also blocked two shots. Also in double digits was Lena Goebel with 12 points.
L. Goebel led in rebounds with 11 and steals with four. Callie Faller had two assists.

Newton edged out to a 16-13 opening quarter lead and eventually finished with a 65-53 victory over Robinson Thursday evening.
The Eagles led 32-24 at halftime.
Three players tallied double figures. Grace Schumacher led with seven field goals, one a three-pointer and four of six at the line for 19 points. Maddie Brummer added 12 and Allie Hermann 11.
Claire Probst pulled down 17 rebounds. Alani Bergbower led in assists with six.
Robinson finished with 10 three-pointers in the contest led by Zoe Tuttle and Leah Correll with three each.
Newton won the junior varsity game, which was shortened to two quarters, 22-14. Gentry, E. Schumacher, Kuhl and Brummer led with four points each.

At Altamont
Nokomis came calling and picked up a non-conference victory over host Altamont, 43-37 Thursday evening.
Nokomis moved into a 12-8 opening quarter lead. But Altamont came back with a 14-1 second period to pull within 23-22 at halftime. Ella Nelson and Ada Roberts nailed a three-pointer each while Kennedy Schultz scored four points.
Nokomis then had a 10-4 third quarter run and held off Altamont in the final period for the win. Kinley Stolte led the winners with 22 points on 10 field goals and two of eight at the line.
Altamont dropped to 4-4 on the season and is back in action Saturday against Greenville.
Altamont won the junior varsity game, 25-7.
