Teutopolis Junior High School won the Class 7-3A State Basketball Tournament championship.
AUBURN — Teutopolis Junior High School captured the Class 7-3A State Basketball Tournament championship Thursday evening at Auburn High School.
The Wooden Shoes edged out to an 8-6 opening quarter lead but Hillsboro came back to knot the score at 14-14 at halftime.
The Shoes then outscored Hillsboro 12-4 in the third quarter to lead 26-18 going into the final period. Hillsboro attempted another comeback only to fall short.
Jojo Schmidt led the Shoes with 16 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line. Schmidt finished with 33 total points for the entire three games played at State.
Also in double figures for the entire State Tourney were Peyton Ruholl and Sophia Grunloh with 11 each.
The Shoes ended the season with a 27-1 record while Hillsboro finished at 25-1.
In the third place contest, Virginia was a 26-17 winner over Downs Tri-Valley.
