 St. Anthony Hands Altamont 68-44 Loss In Girls H.S. Basketball

Effingham St. Anthony High School struck quickly, running out to a 20-4 opening quarter lead on Altamont and went on for a 68-44 victory in a girls basketball game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Bulldogs’ leading scorer Nancy Ruholl took that position again, guiding her team in the opening quarter with three baskets, two of those from three-point range, and was two of two at the line for 10 of her team’s 20 points. Lilly Gannaway and Ali Kollman put in two baskets each.

Altamont’s lone baskets came from Ada Roberts and Avery Aldrich.

The Indians came back to play St. Anthony almost even in the second half to trail 35-16 at halftime. Alyssa Ruholl put in two baskets and a free throw for five points while Justyce Higgs added a three-pointer.

St. Anthony’s Ruholl put in a regular basket and two three-pointers for eight as the Bulldogs held a 35-16 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs had a 20-15 third quarter. Ruholl tacked on seven more points while Addie Lauritzen led the way with eight on three baskets and two of two at the line.

Reagan Kuenstler was the leader for the Indians with seven points while Ella Nelson hit a three-pointer.

Both teams played to a 13-13 final period.

St. Anthony shot 50 percent from the field on 26 of 52 and was 66.7 percent at the line with 12 of 18.

Ruholl finished with 30 points on 10 field goals, four from three-point range, and six of eight at the line. Also in double figures was Lauritzen with 17 on seven of 11 from the field and three of five at the line.

Ruholl and Lauritzen pulled down seven rebounds each. Gannaway had six assists.

Altamont was led by Alyssa Ruholl with nine points on four field goals and one of two at the line. Reagan Kuesntler, Adlrich and Higgs added seven each. Aldrich led in rebounds with four. Roberts had four assists.

St. Anthony improved to 3-0 in the National Trail Conference, 6-2 overall. Altamont dropped to 0-1 in the conference, 4-3 overall.
