COWDEN — Six games were contested Friday at the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City girls basketball tournament.
The tournament was canceled Saturday due to the weather. Saturday’s games would have had Cumberland and Dieterich playing for the championship, Shelbyville against Sandoval for third place and CHBC against North Clay for fifth place.
In the opening game Friday, Dieterich easily defeated Sandoval 41-15. The Maroons held a 12-0 opening quarter lead and led 21-2 at halftime.
Addison Miller led the way for the Marooms with 16 points on five field goals that included a three-pointer, and five of six at the line.
In the second contest, Cumberland handled North Clay to the tune of 61-26.
The Pirates ran out to a 35-12 halftime lead and neve looked back. Three players finished in double digits. Alysa Dittamore scored 19 on nine field goals and one of two at the line. Jude Miller added 16 and Raegan Jones 10.
North Clay was led by Clara Hagen with 12 on six field goals.
Dieterich was then a winner over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City by a 50-39 tally. CHBC held a 16-10 opening quarter lead as Carissa Wakefield scored six points.
Dieterich then came back with a 12-7 run to trail just 23-22 at halftime. Addison MIller nailed two three-pointers in the quarter.
The Maroons continued on with an 18-10 third period to lead 40-33 and finished out with a 10-6 final period.
Miller led the way with 19 points on seven field goals, four of those from three-point range, and one of one at the line. Lena Goebel chipped in with 13 points.
The Bobcats were led by Ethel Stuckemeyer with 14 points on five field goasl and four of four at the line. Lena Bowlin added 11.
In the next contest, Sandoval was a 37-28 winner over Ramsey.
Cumberland won over Shelbyville 62-34. The Pirates ran out to a 32-14 halftime lead and had a 19-12 third period.
Miller nailed 11 field goals, three from beyond the arc, and was one of one at the line for 26 points. Dittamore added 18 points on eight field goals and two of two at the line. Jade Carr chipped in with 13.
Kenzie Jones led Shelbyville with 17 points.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City then finished the day with a 35-24 win over Ramsey.
The Bobcats held a 19-10 halftime lead. Ramsey came back within 25-19 but CHBC finished strong with a 10-5 final period.
Stuckemeyer scored 14 and Bowlin 11.
