 St. Elmo/Brownstown Finishes Third At Mulberry Grove Tourney, T-town Second At Capital Classic

MULBERRY GROVE — St. Elmo/Brownstown handed South Central a 54-21 victory to place third at the Mulberry Grove Tournament Friday.

The Eagles ran out to a 10-0 lead to start the contest and held a 13-6 margin over South Central.

In the second quarter, the Eagles had a 17-8 run to lead 30-14 at halftime.

Benji Lowe finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and two blocks to lead St. Elmo/Brownstown. Jayden Hughett added nine points.

South Central was led by Westin Neilson with eight and Aiden Hoover with seven.

At Red Hill

Teutopolis claimed two victories at the Capital Classic Friday.

The Wooden Shoes beat Mount Carmel easily, 70-17.

T-town held a 22-7 opening quarter lead and led 39-11 at halftime. Three players scored in double figures. Landyn Thoele led with 13 while Landyn Buening added 11 and Daven Worman 10.

The Shoes connected on 11 three-pointers led by L. Buening with three and Worman with two.

In the evening session, Teutopolis won over Fairfield, 61-51.

The Shoes edged out to a 16-14 opening quarter lead but Fairfield came back with an 18-11 run to lead 32-27 at halftime.

T-town then went on a tear in the third quarter, outdistancing Fairfield 20-6 to lead 47-38 and finished out with 14-13 final quarter edge.

Joey  Probst led the Shoes with 17 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line. Landyn Thoele added 14.

Tetuopolis won over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 74-44. They led 34-33 at halftime then outscored the Salukis 40-11 in the second half.

T-town was led by Jason Kreke with 17.

T-town fell to Lawrenceville in the championship game, 56-51.

The Shoes tied the game up several times but Lawrenceville moved into a nine point lead  in the fourth quarter. T-town cut it to three but several shots didn’t fall and the Shoes finished second.

Vincennes was third with a 49-45 win over Fairfield. Olney downed Mount Carmel 58-33 in the fifth place game. Salem took seventh over Red Hill 81-72.

Named to the all-Tournament Team were Zander Cessna (Lawrenceville), the Most Valuable Player, Jacek Mickiewicz (Lawrenceville), Gavin Addis (Teutopolis),  Landyn Thoele (Teutopolis), Casey Thomann (Olney), Owen Gruen (Fairfield), Marcus Davis (Red Hill), Leyton Battles (Vincennes), Jayden Goff (Lawrenceville), Noah Wilson (Lawrenceville) and Shain Meador (Mount Carmel).
