Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony both suffered losses in the St. Anthony Boys Basketball Turkey Tournament Wednesday evening.
The Hearts opened the evening with a 63-47 defeat at the hands of Edwardsville.
Edwardsville went out to a 16-8 opening quarter lead and then had a 22-11 second period run to lead 38-19 at halftime. Neimi connected on three trifectas through the opening half and finished with five for the game to lead Edwardsville with 16 points.
Effingham was led by Jenner Pals with 13 on five field goals that included one three-pointer.
Six players scored in the opening quarter for Chicago Leo and the squad held a 15-7 lead over St. Anthony.
The lead went to 20-11 at halftime as the Bulldogs managed only two baskets in the second quarter.
St. Anthony played Leo even in the third period as both teams scored 11 points and the Bulldogs had a 10-7 final quarter run but couldn’t make up that first half difference.
The Bulldogs were led by Keenan Griffith with nine points and Gabe Looman with eight.
The action continues Friday with four games. St. Anthony and Effingham square off at 7:30 p.m.
