PANA — Effingham St. Anthony and Brownstown/St. Elmo are both doing well at the Pana Girls Turkey Basketball Tournament. Both teams have 2-1 records.
St. Anthony opened with a 52-32 loss to Breese Mater Dei.
The Bulldogs trailed 28-12 at halftime. Nancy Ruholl scored 21 for the Bulldogs.
In the second game, St. Anthony was a 54-25 winner over Mattoon. The Bulldogs ran out to a 34-17 halftime lead and never looked back.
Ruholl led with 18 points while Jackie Vonderheide added 12. Ali Kollmann led in rebounds with 10. Addie Lauritzen had four assists.
St. Anthony ended the weekend with a 70-40 win over Gillespie.
The Bulldogs edged out to an 18-17 opening quarter lead then had a 24-8 run and never looked back.
Ruholl went on a second quarter tear, scoring 19 points and finished witih 37 for the contest. She hit 13 field goals, six from three-point range, and was five of six at the line.
Vonderheide and Kollmann both added nine points. Kollman led in rebounds with 12. Lilly Gannaway had six assists.
Brownstown/St. Elmo won over Lincoln by a 49-28 count.
Lincoln moved into a 12-6 opening quarter lead and led 16-14 at halftime.
Brownstown/St. Elmo came back with a 17-4 third quarter run and outdistanced Lincoln 18-8 in the final period.
BSE was led by Dayana Haslett with 26 points on seven field goals that included four three-pointers and was eight of nine at the line.
Danika Ramsey added 10 points.
Highland then edged BSE by a 41-34 count.
Highland took a 20-15 halftime lead and led by six going into the final quarter.
Brownstown/St. Elmo had only one player in double figures. Madi Miller led with 11 points.
BSE then defeated host Pana by a 64-46 count.
D. Haslett went on a run. She scored nine points in the opening half then went on a 22 second half run, connecting on 13 field goals that included four three-pointers. She finished with 31 points.
Madi Miller added the one-two scoring punch with 21 points on 10 field goals and one of seven at the line.
Both St. Anthony and Brownstown/st. Elmo will be back in action Friday with the schedule yet to be determined.
