 Teutopolis Wins NAL Girls Basketball Tournament Championship

PARIS — Teutopolis High School captured the championship of the North American Lighting Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The tournament opened play last Monday and went through pool play. Teutopolis won both of its pool games while Paris also claimed both victories.

That advanced T-town to a game with Danville Saturday while Paris faced Olney.

T-town was an easy 52-19 winner over Danville while Paris trounced Olney 50-18.

The Wooden Shoes went out to a 20-3 opening quarter lead as Anna Probst knocked in seven points while Malea Helmink added six.

The Shoes led 38-6 at halftime. Helmink added on six more points.

T-town finished with two players in double figures. Kelsey Niemerg led the way in scoring with 16 points while Helmink added 14 and Probst finished with nine. Helmink led in rebounds with eight. Niemerg had five steals. Anna Probst had two assists.

Paris downed Olney 50-18.

Teutopolis and Paris then squared off for the championship

The Wooden Shoes took a 15-8 opening quarter lead as Sophia Martin scored three baskets and An. Probst hit a three and two free throws.

T-town held a 32-24 halftime lead. The Shoes connected on nine of 11 free throws in the quarter. Jersey Gaddis hit a two three-pointers and was two of two at the line for eight points.

But here came Paris, The Tigers bounced back, hitting three trifectas in the quarter and pulled within 43-41 going into the final period.

But the Shoes got back their range, and had a 16-9 final period to claim the victory. Allie Ruholl scored seven of her 16 points.

Also in double figures was Martin and J. Gaddis with 10 each.
