Effingham played host to Charleston in junior high girls basketball Thursday and captured both victories.

The seventh-grade Mustangs won 23-18 in overtime. Effingham held a 12-5 halftime lead but Charleston came back to tie the score at 17-17 sending the contest into overtime where the Mustangs had a 6-1 scoring run for the victory.

Effingham was led by Kynlie Rohr with 14 points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham put on its scoring shoes and pounded Charleston 43-13.

Effingham held a 25-7 halftime lead. Holland scored 16 for the winners.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony and Sigel St. Michael split wins Thursday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Michael was a 32-12 winner, breaking an 11-11 halftime tie with a 21-1 second half run.

The Sharpshooters were led by Maddie Hoene with eight points and Caroline Drake with seven.

St. Anthony was led by I. McDonald with six.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony edged St. Michael 24-21.

The score was tied at 12-12 at halftime and 15-15 in the third quarter. But St. Anthony came roaring back with a 9-6 run to pull out the three-point win.

B. Schultz scored 13 for the Bullpups and N. Semple added eight.

St. Michael was led by Brianna Niebrugge with 17 points.

Neoga claimed the seventh-grade victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday.

Neoga won 24-10. Neoga had a 10-7 first half lead then had a 14-3 second half.

Nora Hartke and Izzy McNeal scored nine points each for the winners.

CHBC was led by E. Wheeler and A. Cole with three each.

In the eighth-grade game, CHBC won 44-39.

The Bobcats broke a 9-9 opening quarter tie with a slight 14-10 second period to lead 23-19 at halftime. CHBC then had a 21-20 second half for the five-point win.

K. Robertson scored 17 to lead the way while E. Thompson and H. Goeckner added nine each.

Neoga was led by Nora Hartke with 21 points and Bliss Bear with 17.

Dieterich picked up a 23-17 seventh-grade victory over Effingham Sacred Heart Thursday. There was no eighth-grade game played.

Dieterich held a 9-7 halftime lead then had an 14-10 second half.

Ali Koester led in scoring with 11 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, had one blocked shot and six steals. Ali Koester, Jenna Bohnhoff and Alivia Icenogle had one assist each.
