BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown/St. Elmo took off in the opening quarter and went on for a 58-21 victory over Litchfield in girls high school baseball action Thursday evening.

The Bombers held a 19-5 opening quarter lead as Danika Ramsey knocked in two three-pointers. That lead went to 43-5 at halftime.

Dayana Haslett led in the second quarter with 10 points while Madi Miller added six and Ramsey five more.

Four players hit double figures for BSE. Haslett led the way with 16 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and five free throws. Miller added 15 points on seven fields goals and a free throw. Ramsey tallied 14 points on five field goals, four of those from beyond the arc, and Presley Williams chipped in with 10.

Litchfield won the junior varsity contest, 15-8.

At Brownstown

At Sandoval

Effingham St. Anthony won easily over Sandoval by a 67-28 count Thursday evening.

Nancy Ruholl got the Bulldogs off in the right direction in the opening quarter, scoring 14 points on four two-pointers and two three-pointers.

The Bulldogs held a 45-11 halftime lead. This quarter it was Lilly Gannaway on the offense, scoring 11 points on four two-pointers and a three.

The Bulldogs had a 22-17 second half.

Ruholl finished with 20 points with eight field goals, three from beyond the arc, and one of three at the line. Gannaway hit seven field goals, one a three-pointer, for 15.

Ali Kollmann led in rebounds with five. Ruholl had eight assists and five steals.

St. Anthony is now 2-0 on the season and will be back in action today at the Pana Tournament against Breese Mater Dei at 6 p.m.

At Farina

South Central hosted North Clay in a National Trail Conference matchup and claimed a 36-28 victory Thursday evening.

The Cougars edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead then had a 13-5 second period to lead 20-11 at halftime.

North Clay came back with a 12-8 third quarter run to pull within 28-19 but South Central got back on track in the final period.

Baylee Brown led South Central with 16 points.

At Strasburg

Newton stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and went on to down Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg by a 58-38 count Thursday evening.

Alani Bergbower and Allie Hermann scored 14 points each to lead the Eagles. Also in double figures was Izzy Meinhart with 11.

Hermann led in rebounding with eight while Claire Probst had seven. Bergbower and Meinhart led in steals with four each. Bergbower, Hermann and Emma Schumacher had three assists each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Kendra Hayes with 17 points. She connected on six field goals, three of those three-pointers and two free throws.

Newton moves to 2-0 on the season and will be back in action Monday against Flora in the Bob Kerans Tournament.

Newton also claimed the junior varsity game, 47-20.

Effingham played host to Breese Central and fell by a 60-34 tally Thursday evening.

Breese Central moved into a 20-8 opening quarter lead as Alyssa Martin scored four for the Hearts.

EHS came back with a 9-6 second period to pull within 26-17. Martin connected on a field goal and a free throw.

But here came Central with a 20-9 third quarter and a 14-8 final period.

The Hearts had one player in double figures. Martin hit six field goals and three free throws for 15 points.

Edwards County (Albion) claimed a 50-37 victory over Cumberland in action Thursday evening.

The two teams were tied at 9-9 after the opening quarter but Edwards County went on a 17-7 second quarter run behind G. Bishop’s 11 points.

Cumberland came back with a 12-11 edge in the third quarter but Edwards County finished out with a 13-9 final period.

Two players hit double figures for the Pirates. Jude Miller led with 14 points while Jade Carr added 11.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell to Lincolnwood 42-29 in the Nokomis Tipoff Tournament Thursday evening.

The Bobcats trailed Lincolnwood 28-4 at halftime. They came back with an 11-3 third quarter run but it wasn’t enough.

Carissa Wakefield and Lena Bowlin scored 10 points each for the Bobcats. Wakefield led in rebounds with 12. Ethel Stuckemeyer had 10 rebounds and led in steals with five. Ryleigh Sarver had three assists.
