MARSHALL — Effingham St. Anthony scored 44 points in both seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball play and picked up both victories over Marshall Monday evening.
In the seventh-grade contest, the Bullpups edged Marshall 44-42.
Marshall edged out to a 7-5 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 22-10 at halftime.
St. Anthony mounted a furious comeback with a 19-7 third quarter run to tie the score at 29-29 then continued on with a 15-13 final period for the win.
James Gilmore and Ryan Wohltman scored 10 points each to lead the way for the Bullpups.
In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony was a 44-36 winner.
The Bullpups held a 26-16 halftime lead but Marshall fought back to pull within 28-24 going into the final quarter. P. Phillips then hit nine points as the Bullpups had a 16-12 run for the win.
Phillips finished with 21 points while R. Schumacher added 11.

At Effingham
Effingham Sacred Heart was a winner in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Monday evening.
The Shamrocks trailed Mulberry Grove 9-8 at halftime of the seventh-grade contest before coming back with a 13-3 third period and going on for a 25-20 win.
Teddy Jansen led the winners with 15 points.
In eighth-grade play, Sacred Heart ran out to a 23-8 first half lead and tallied a 40-14 victory.
Gabe Traub scored half of the Shamrocks points with 20. Bryce Hayes chipped in with nine.

At Cowden
Cumberland came calling and nabbed two victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday evening.
The seventh-grade contest went to Cumberland 27-24. CHBC held a 10-4 opening quarter lead and led 18-10 at halftime. Cumberland came back with a 10-4 third period run and went on for the victory.
Henderson led the way with 13 points while Dittamore added 10.
CHBC was led by Tyce Kircher and Avontae Wilson with seven points each.
In eighth-grade competition, Cumberland again earned a three-point victory, 34-31.
This time Cumberland led 19-8 at halfitme then fought off a fourth quarter run by CHBC.
Clapp led the way for Cumberland with 14 points.
CHBC was led by Kole Schaefer with nine.

Jasper County was a winner twice on the evening over Oblong.
Jasper County ran out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead in the seventh-grade contest and went on for a 55-20 victory.
Cash Collins scored 19 for the winners while Tristian Lingafelter added 12. Rafe Thomann was the top rebounder, Lingafelter the top defender and Collins the top passer.
In eighth-grade competition, Jasper County won 37-26. Jasper County held 35-15 lead going into the final quarter.
Grant Frichtl and Dawson Williams had 10 points each. Williams was the top rebounder, Alex Keller the top defender and Frichtl the top passer.
Jasper County is back in action tonight hosting Altamont.

Dieterich picked up a victory and suffered a loss in its own eighth-grade tournament Monday evening.
Dieterich was a 28-18 winner over St. Joseph.
Dieterich held an 11-8 first half lead. Brady Niemerg led the way with 10 points for the winners.
Dieterich then fell to St. Thomas 34-28.
St. Thomas edged ahead 12-11 in the opening quarter and pushed that to 24-16 at halftime and went on for the victory.
St. Thomas was led by Levi Gier with 17 points.
Dieterich was led by Chase Uthell with 14.
