 Junior High Girls Basketball Results — Oct. 23

BROWNSTOWN — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and South Central claimed victories in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

South Central handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 31-13 loss to advance to the championship game.

South Central will meet either Cumberland or Sigel St. Michael Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for the championship. Those two teams play tonight.

CHBC dropped into the third place game and will meet the loser of the Cumberland vs. St. Michael contest for third place Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

In consolation bracket play, Stewardson-Strasburg was a 36-29 winner over Dieterich in triple overtime.

Windsor/Stew-Stras held a 10-6 opening quarter lead and led 15-12 at halftime. Dieterich started a comeback, pulling within 21-19 in the third quarter. Dieterich tied the game at 25-25 sending the game into the first overtime period. Both teams scored three points in the second overtime before Stew-Stras pulled out the win with a 7-1 third overtime run.

Laney Barnard led the way for the winners with 14 points while KJ Althoff added 11.

Dieterich was led in scoring by Alivia Icenogle with 10 points. Ali Koester had 10 rebounds and seven steals.

Windsor/Stew-Stras moved into the consolation championship game and will face either Altamont or Neoga at 9 am. Saturday. Those two teams play tonight at 6 p.m.

At Effingham

Effingham easily handled Centralia in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Thursday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 42-11. Effingham took a 22-7 halftime score.

Alivia Lauritzen led the way in scoring with 16 points while Sophie Wiedman added eight.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham was a 43-17 winner. The Mustangs held a 21-2 halftime lead.

Cloie Bailey led with 14 points while Kloey Bierman and Rhylee Holland finished with 10 each for the Mustangs. Arabella Barnhart added nine.

At Robinson

Effingham St. Anthony and Robinson Nuttall split victories Thursday evening.

St. Anthony was a winner in seventh-grade action, 13-5. The Bullpups held a 6-2 halftime lead and outscored Nuttall 7-3 in the third quarter.

N. Brumleve led the way with five points for the Bullpups.

In eighth-grade play, Robinson Nuttall captured a 40-24 victory.

Nuttall led 18-9 at halftime. Beard led the way with 16 points.

St. Anthony was led by Bella Schultz with 20 points.

Teutopolis came calling at Pana and went home with two victories Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest 37-6 to improve to 11-1 on the season.

Grunloh led the way with eight points while P. Ruholl added seven. The Shoes are now 11-1 on the season.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town held a 20-10 halftime lead and went on for a 34-24 victory.

Meyer scored 10 for the winners who improved to 10-2.
