Effingham Junior High School was a winner over Salem Franklin Park in both seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball Thursday evening.

The Mustangs defeated Franklin Park 30-11 in the seventh-grade contest.

The two teams played to a 4-4 opening quarter tie but the Mustangs ran out to a 12-0 second quarter to lead 16-4 at halftime.

Anna Gouchenouer scored 12 fo the winners while Mia Hartke added seven.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo split victories Thursday evening.

BSE was a 20-14 winner in the seventh-grade matchup. CHBC held a 6-1 opening quarter lead but BSE came back to pull within 8-7 at halftime. BSE then had a 13-6 second half for the win.

Lach led the winners with 10 points.

CHBC was led by Maycee Robertson with 10. The Bobcats dropped to 3-2 in the National Trail Conference and 5-3 overall.

In eighth-grade play, CHBC easily won 32-13. The Bobcats held a 15-4 halftime lead.

Elaina Thompson had 12 points for the winners while Reece Vaughn added six. CHBC improved to 4-1 in the National Trail Conference, 6-2 overall.

BSE was led by Schwarm with seven points.

Neoga edged Cumberland 27-23 in seventh-grade play Thursday evening.

The two teams were tied at 4-4 in the opening quarter before Cumberland edged ahead 12-11 at halftime. Neoga then had a 16-11 second half.

Lydia Frankie led with eight points for the winners.

Cumberland was led by Leah McMechan with 10.

In the eighth-grade contest, Neoga was a 39-22 winner. Bliss Bear led with 15 points for the winners while Lucy Haarman and Kinsey Bell added eight each.

Cumberland was led by Brittlyn Murphy with seven.

Dieterich and South Central each picked up a victory Thursday evening.

South Central claimed the seventh-grade win by a 20-11 count.

The winners took a 13-2 halftime lead and never looked back.

Dieterich was led by Kambryn Mellendorf with five points and five steals. Ali Koester had six rebounds.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich was a big victor over South Central, 42-4.

Mya Ohnesorge and Mackenzie Roedl scored seven points each. Lydia Kreke led in rebounds with five and had one blocked shot. Emma Williams had five steals.

At Farina

Pana Sacred Heart downed Stewardson-Strasburg in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Thursday.

Sacred Heart won the seventh-grade matchup, 21-12. Stew-Stras pulled within 13-12 going into the final quarter but Sacred Heart had an 8-0 final period run.

Stew-Stras was led in scoring by Althoff with five points as the team dropped to 5-5 on the season.

In the eighth-grade matchup, Sacred Heart led 13-8 at halftime and went on for a 28-18 win.

Stew-Stras was led by Macklin with nine points. The team fell to 2–8 on the season.

Stew-Stras is back in action Tuesday in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Tournament.

North Clay was a winner over Sandoval Thursday evening.

North Clay won 44-30 and improved to 4-3 on the season. The team returns to action today against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6 p.m.
