 Dieterich, BSE, CHBC, North Clay Win, Newton Drops Loss In H.S. Baseball

DIETERICH — Dieterich High School edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and then fought off Cumberland for a 5-4 high school baseball victory Tuesday.

The Movin’ Maroons tallied four more in the fifth and held a 5-0 lead. But Cumberland came back with a run in the fifth and pulled within 5-4 in the sixth with three runs. But the Maroons hung on for the victory.

Dieterich had 10 hits led by Gavin Meinhart, Landen Keck and Bryce Bohnhoff with a single and double each. Keck and Meinhart added an RBI each. Mason Lidy finished with two singkes and an RBI and Justin Boerngen a single and two RBI.

Cumberland finished with nine hits led by Grady Jones with a double and Maddox Miller, Wyatt Watkins and Gavin Keyser with two singles each. Miller had two RBI. Hudson McElravy added a single and an RBI.

Jackson Icenogle went 5.2 innings for the win on the mound. He gave up four runs on seven hits, three walks and struck out eight.

At Dieterich

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 6-5 victory over Woodlawn Tuesday.

BSE edged ahead 2-1 in the first inning and led 3-1 after five. But Woodlawn rallied with two in the sixth and two more in the seventh to move ahead 5-3.

Coach Ryan Beccue’s squad finished with nine hits led by Calin Chandler with two singles, a double and five RBI, Zayden Gillespie with two singles and a double, Jayce Gillespie with a single and double and Dodge Willms with a double.

Chandler tossed a five-hitter with three strikeouts for the win on the mound.

Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 8-13 on the season and will be back in action Thursday against Central A&M.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City pounded Mulberry Grove by a 16-1 count in four innings Tuesday.

The Bobcats moved into an 8-0 opening inning lead and tallied single runs in the second and fourth and six in the third.

Clive Schlanser led the way in hitting with a single, double and three RBI. Kale Hardimon added a single, double and one RBI. Connor Vaughn chipped in with two singles and three RBI. Blake Mueller added a triple while AJ Radloff had a double. Conner Nowitzke, Ben Askins, Hunter Pope and Max Dye finished with a single and an RBI each. Isaac Wells added an RBI.

Lamb picked up the pitching victory.

North Clay/Clay City tallied a 9-1 victory over Vandalia Tuesday.

The Cardinals are now 18-6 on the season and return to action today playing host to Okaw Valley during Senior Night festivities beginning at 4:30 p.m.

 

At Albion

Newton tallied only one run and it wasn’t enough as Edwards County (Albion) won 5-1 Tuesday.

The Eagles scored their run in the fourth. They finished with four hits led by Drake Wolf with a single and an RBI. Gavin Meinhart, David Baltzell and Dexter Fulton added a single each.

Edwards County had six hits led by Drew Roosevelt with two doubles and an RBI, Jex Duncan with a single, double and three RBI and Jackson Hensley with a double.

Newton (15-12) will play host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest. They will have Senior Night.
