 Windsor/Stew-Stras, Cumberland Win In H.S. Baseball, Altamont Suffers Loss

STRASBURG — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg struck in the first inning and went on to down Brownstown/St. Elmo by a 15-2 count in five innings of high school baseball action Monday.

The Hatchets scored six in the first then tacked on two in the second and third and finished out with five in the fourth. Brownstown/St. Elmo tallied two in the second.

Ben Bridges hit a double and home run for the winners and drove in four runs. Blayzz Verdeyen added a double and two RBI while Branson Tingley finished with a double. Derk Friese added two singles and two RBI and Jackson Gurgel and Wyatt Wetherell a single and an RBI each. Carter Verdeyen finished with an RBI.

B. Verdeyen went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out six. Tingley came on to finish 1.1 innings and struck out one.

Jayce Gillespie led BSE with two singles while Lucas Powell had a double and two RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped to 5-11 on the season and is back in action today at Dieterich.

At Strasburg

At Toledo

Heritage took a 3-0 lead in the second and held on to that lead until the bottom of the sixth. That’s when Cumberland got unwound and tallied four runs for the 4-3 victory Monday.

The Pirates finished with six hits led by Hudson  McElravy and Grady Jones with a single and double each. Wyatt Watkins added a double and drove in two runs.

Meanwhile, McElravy went six innings for the pitching win. He gave up three runs on three hits, two walks while striking out 10.

At Glen Carbon

Father McGivney blanked Altamont by an 11-0 tally Monday.

The winners tallied three in the opening inning and pushed that to five in the second, six in the third and ended the game via the 10-run rule with five in the fourth.

Omar Avalos had a double, home run and two RBI for the winners while Mason Holmes added two doubles and two RBI and Isaac Wendler two singles, a double and two RBI.

Holmes kept the Indians off the bases. He gave up two hits, no walks and struck out six.

Altamont’s two hits were singles by Cooper McManaway and Dyson Wagner.
