The Wooden Shoes baseball team continued their winning ways edging Mattoon 4-3 Thursday afternoon.

T-town scored four runs with eight hits and did not have an error. The Green Wave scored their three runs on 11 hits and committed three errors.

Mattoon opened up the scoring with two runs in the third inning and another in the sixth. The Shoes scored a single run in the fourth and three in the fifth.

With two outs and a runner on second base in the top of the seventh, the Greenwave got a single to left field. The runner from second rounded third and headed for home but Shoes leftfielder Cooper Tegeler fired a strike to the plate and catcher Jason Kreke applied the tag cutting down the potential tying run to end the game.

It was the 19th win to just two losses for Teutopolis. Mattoon is now 11-10 on the season.

Caleb Deters is credited with the pitching victory as he threw one inning in relief allowing one run on four hits. Andrew Probst got the start going four innings allowing six hits and two runs. Aidan Niemerg earned the save tossing the final two innings giving up no runs, one hit and striking out four.

At the plate Henry Thompson and Dawson Hoene were both two for three with a double. Mick Niebrugge also had a double and Jason Kreke, Carter Hoene, and Gavin Addis all singled on the day, with RBIs for Kreke and Aidan Niemerg.
