BREESE — Effingham St. Anthony had to hold off a charging Breese Mater Dei to claim a 9-7 high school baseball victory Thursday.
The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then tacked on two in the top of the third. Mater Dei pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the frame.
St. Anthony then scored one in the fifth and led 9-3 after the sixth. But here came Mater Dei in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs only to fall short.
Aiden Lauritzen had a single and two doubles for the Bulldogs while Brock Fearday had a single, a home run and three RBI. Charley Spour added a single, home run and five RBI and Henry Brent a single and an RBI.
Brady Hatton went six innings for the win, allowing three runs on four hits, three walks and striking out seven.
At Breese

Brownstown/St. Elmo’s Nolan Wilhour hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 6-5 win over Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Thursday.
OPS held a 2-0 lead after two innings. BSE tied the score in the bottom of the third and moved ahead 3-2 with a run in the fourth. OPS then tied in the top of the fifth. BSE came back with two in the bottom of the frame to lead 5-3. Here came OPS with two runs in the top of the sixth to tie at 5-5 before BSE won it in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bombers had 11 hits led by Zayden Gillespie with a single, home run and two RBI and Wilhour with two singles and two RBI. Keelan Speagle added three singles and Lane Stine had a single and an RBI.
BSE is now 4-9 on the season.

Altamont moved into a first inning lead on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and ended up with a 3-0 victory Thursday.
The Indians finished with five hits, all singles by Brayden Elam, Cooper McManaway, Keegan Schultz, Dyson Wagner and Brayden Schnarre. McManaway and Wagner had an RBI each.
Wagoner went the distance, giving up no runs on six hits, no walks while striking out 10.
CHBC was led by Wyatt Rueff with two doubles, Jonah Hardiman with a single and double and Hunter Pope with two singles.

Teutopolis scored a single run in the second then tacked on four more in the fifth for a 5-0 victory Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes had six hits led by Jason Kreke with two singles and two RBI, Austin Borries with a double, Michael Niebrugge a single and an RBI and Carter Hoene with an RBI.
Aidan Niemerg went 6.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, four walks and striking out seven. Caleb Deters got the final two outs.
Niemerg improved his pitching record to 3-0 on the season.
Teutopolis is now 15-2 while Mount Zion dropped to 11-4.
The Wooden Shoes will be back in action Saturday at Waterloo Gibault facing Gibault and Freeburg.

Three pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter. Mason Lidy went two innings, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out three for the win. Dom Ashley came on to go an inning with one walk and two strikeouts. Justin Boerngen went the final inning, allowing one walk and striking out three.
The Movin’ Maroons took a 7-0 opening inning lead and added on seven more in the second and finished with one in the third.
Bryce Bohnhoff had two singles, a double and drove in four runs while Landen Keck added a single and four RBI, Andrew Hall a a single and two RBI, Jaxon Funneman a double and Boerngen an RBI.

Villa Grove held a 2-1 lead in the second. The Pirates tied in the fourth then pushed across the three runs for the win.
Cumberland had six hits, all singles by Hudson McElravy, Kade McMechan, Isaac Venatta, Wyatt Watkins, Reed Miller and Gavin Keyser.
McElravy went all seven innings on the mound. he gave up two runs on three hits, one walk and struck out eight.
