MARSHALL — Effingham St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead against Marshall then went on for a 9-1 high school baseball victory Tuesday.
The Bulldogs finished with 11 hits as Henry Brent hit two singles and a double. He finished with six RBI. Blake Verdeyen also had a big night at the plate with two singles, a double and an RBI. Curtis Tingley added a triple and an RBI, Will Bierman two singles and Rogan Allen an RBI.
While St. Anthony was leading in the hit category, Xander Beals tossed a four-hitter. He finished with seven strikeouts and walked four. The lone Marshall run was an earned run.
The Bulldogs continue a busy week. After falling to Mahomet-Seymour Monday, St. Anthony beat Marshall and will now host South Central today then travel to Mount Zion Thursday.

At Effingham
Effingham High School was victorious over Charleston as two Apollo Conference teams met Tuesday. The Hearts tallied a 4-2 win.
The Hearts were the first to get on the board when an error scored a run. But the Trojans tied the game in the top of the second.
EHS came right back with to move into a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Carter Braddy singled, scoring one run.
The Hearts then tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to right field by Wyatt Hayes.
The only other run in the game came in the top of the fifth by Charleston.
Jude Traub earned the win, giving up six hits and two runs, none earned, over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
Hayes led the Hearts in RBI with two. Brody Boehm and Braddy had two singles each.
In the junior varsity contest, Charleston was a 6-2 winner.
Effingham had only three hits compared to nine for the Trojans. Dagg Thompson had a triple and an RBI while Ian Kinkelaar had a single and an RBI.
The Hearts return to action today and face the same opponent, only at Charleston.

At Teutopolis
Richland County, Olney moved into a 1-0 lead in the third inning and led 2-0 in the top of the fourth.
However, Teutopolis put together a 12-run bottom of the fourth to win the game by the 10-run rule, 12-2 Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes finished with nine hits led by Jason Kreke with a double, home run and three RBI while Caleb Deters had a double and two RBI and Nolan Schumacher a double and an RBI.
Davin Worman had a single and two RBI while Hayden Tebbe and Teagan Pals added a single and an RBI each.
Deters came on in relief to pick up the pitching victory. He went 1.2 innings, not giving up a run, hit or walk while striking out two.
The Shoes are now 8-1 on the season.
Paris edged Teutopolis, 2-1 in a freshman/sophomore contest.
T-town held a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Paris tied in the fourth then scored the winning run in the fifth.
The Shoes had three hits led by Alex Grunloh with a single, double and an RBI.

At Oblong
Dieterich trailed Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine 1-0 after the first inning. The two teams were tied at 2-2 in the third.
But the Maroons decided enough was enough and broke loose with a three-run fourth and finished the game in the fifth by scoring 11 runs for a 16-2 victory.
Dieterich ended the game with 15 hits in the contest led by Gavin Meinhart with three singles and two RBI, Jackson Icenogle with three singles and an RBI, Bryce Bohnhoff with a double and three RBI, Andrew Hall with a double and an RBI, Dominic Ashley with a double, Carson Baxter with two singles and two RBI, Justin Boerngen with two singles, Alex Schottman with a single and three RBI and Mason Lidy with a single and an RBI.
Ashley went the five innings striking out 10. He gave up two runs on four hits and one walk.

Altamont took no prisoners Tuesday as the Indians bounced Brownstown/St. Elmo by a 20-2 tally in four innings.
The Indians finished with nine hits and were aided by three BSE errors and drawing 13 walks.
Altamont held a 1-0 opening inning lead then broke the game wide open with a 14-run third and finished with five in the fourth. SEB’s two runs came in the bottom of the fourth.
Kade Milleville had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Cooper McManaway had two singles and three RBI. Kaiden Wolff had a double and two RBI. Brayden Elam added a single and three RBI, Lucas Berg a single and two RBI, Will Reardon two RBI, Zaine Miller a single and an RBI. Kale Davis added a single and two RBI.
Carson Milleville went the four innings, giving up two runs on two hits, no walks and striking out three.
BSE (2-4) was led by Jayce Gillespie with a double and Keelan Speagle with a single and an RBI. BSE returns to action Thursday against Pana.

The Eagles had six hits while Shelbyville led with eight.
Drake Wolf led in the hitting department with a single, double and three RBI. Quincy Fulton chipped in with a double. Reed Tharp added a single and an RBI and David Ferguson added an RBI.
Carson Bartheleme tossed five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits, no walks while striking out six. D. Wolf came on to throw the final two innings, giving up two walks and striking out two.

Neoga traveled to Vandalia and fell in a regular season contest, 6-4.
The Vandals moved into a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Neoga pushed ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth but Vandalia came back with a four-run bottom of the frame to lead 6-3. Neoga brought a final run home in the sixth.
Neoga outhit the Vandals by a 7-6 count but committed three errors.
The Indians were led by Cayden Hakman with two singles and an RBI, Callen Lanham and Mason Platz with two singles each, Jude Finney with a single and an RBI and Garrett Ballinger with an RBI.
