 Newton, Dieterich Pick Up High School Baseball Victories

OLNEY — Newton High School trailed Richland County, Olney 2-1 after the opening inning. But the Eagles came back with a two-run second to push into a 3-2 lead Thursday.

The Tigers then tallied two runs in the bottom of the third to lead 4-3. But Newton fought back with a four-run fourth and went on for a 7-4 victory Thursday.

Newton finished with six hits led by Quincy Fulton with a triple and two RBI and Maddox Horner with a single, double and two RBI. Drake Wolf chipped in with a single and an RBI.

Carson Bartheleme came on in relief in the fourth inning. He tossed three innings, giving up two runs on three hits, one walk while striking out four for the victory.

At Olney

At Bridgeport

Dieterich trailed Red Hill (Bridgeport) by a 3-2 count after the opening inning and 4-2 after two.

But the Movin’ Maroons went on a tear, scoring five runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the sixth to finish with an 8-5 victory.

Dieterich had a 10-hit attack. Mason Lidy hit a solo home run. Jackson Icenogle had a single, double and two RBI while Andrew Hall added a double and an RBI. Alex Schottman hit two singles and had an RBI. Dominic Ashley and Gavin Meinhart finished with a single and an RBI each.

Hall went five innings on the mound for the win. He gave up eight hits, three walks and struck out seven. Lidy came on to toss the final two innings, giving up one walk and striking out two.
