 Effingham Blanks Altamont, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Neoga Drop Losses

Three pitchers worked together to pitch a no-hitter as Effingham High School blanked Altamont, 5-0 in baseball action in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Friday.

Jude Traub tossed the first four innings, giving up three walks and striking out seven. Wyatt Hayes came in to go two innings with three strikeouts and Barron Coffman finished with the final two outs, allowing one walk.

Meanwhile, the Hearts had only five hits themselves but managed to tally single runs in the second and fifth around three in the third.

A dropped third strikeout put the Hearts on the board in the bottom of the second. EHS extended its lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Carter Braddy and Brody Boehm.

A final run came in the fifth.

EHS had five hits led by Braddy with a single, double and two RBI, Max Flack with a double and Brody Boehm with a single and an RBI.

At Okaw Valley

Brownstown/St. Elmo headed to Okaw Valley and came home with a 13-1 loss in five innings Friday.

BSE finished with three hits led by Lucas Powell with a double. Jayce Gillespie and Zayden Gillespie had a single each. Z. Gillespie added an RBI.

At Marshall

Neoga fell to Marshall by a 9-8 tally Friday.

Marshall moved into a 3-1 opening inning lead and pushed that to 5-1 in the second. Neoga came back with a four-run third but Marshall scored again in the bottom of the frame to lead 6-5. Marshall added on a run in the fifth and Neoga tacked on a run in the sixth and moved ahead 8-7 in the top of the seventh.

But Marshall came back in the bottom of the seventh to score the tying and winning runs.

Neoga had eight hits led by Garrett Ballinger with a single, triple, home run and four RBI while Malik Coy and Grady Haarman had a single and an RBI each. Brett Matusas added an  RBI.
