MARION — Jude Traub’s clutch hitting led Effingham High School’s 17-1 victory over Marion in Friday baseball action.
Traub drove in four runs on three hits that included a single and two doubles.
The Hearts moved into a 4-0 opening inning lead. Traub singled, scoring one run, Brayden Tucker doubled, scoring two runs and James Wendt lined out, scoring a run.
The Hearts scored two more runs in the top of the second on a home run to centerfield by Andrew Wagoner.
The Hearts put the game totally away with an eight-run fourth and finished the game with three runs in the fifth. Brody Boehm knocked out a home run, scoring two runs while Westin Hayes and Carter Braddy added a single and an RBI each and Traub doubled scoring three runs.
Traub finished with a single, two doubles and four RBI while Carter Braddy had four singles and drove in three runs. Wagoner hit a home run and had two RBI. Tucker added a double and two RBI. Boehm had a home run and two RBI, Hayes a single and double.
Braddy went the five innings on the mound, giving up one run, one hit, two walks while striking out six.

At Brownstown
Senior Keelan Speagle singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Brownstown/St. Elmo edged Hillsboro 3-2.
The two teams went scoreless through he first four innings before BSE broke loose with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Hillsboro then moved ahead in the top of the seventh only to see BSE come back with two runs in the bottom of the frame for the victory.
Speagle finished with two singles and an RBI while Jayce Gillespie had a double and an RBI. Calvin Voelker had two singles.
Gillespie went four innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out six but Calvin Voelker was the winner in relief. He went three innings, giving up two runs on one hit, no walks and striking out two.
BSE is now 1-0 and is back in action today at Lebanon.

At O’Fallon
Teutopolis took part Friday in the Metro Classic at O’Fallon against Columbia and came out a 4-3 winner.
The Wooden Shoes took the initiative early with two runs in the opening inning. Columbia came back with a run in the top of the fourth but T-town scored a run in the bottom of the frame to lead 3-1.
Columbia then tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the fifth.
T-town won in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off home run by Davin Worman.
Caleb Deters picked up the pitching win. He tossed the final inning and did not give up a walk or a hit.
Both teams had seven hits. T-town was led by Worman with a single, double, home run and two RBI while Nolan Schumacher had two singles and Austin Borries contributed a single and two RBI.
At O’Fallon

At Newton
Newton played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and blanked the Bobcats 11-0 in five innings Friday.
The Eagles had 12 hits in the contest while holding CHBC to two. Gavin Meinhart was the winning pitcher, tossing a two-hitter.
CHBC’s two hits were singles by Isaac Wells and Cayden Ondes.
At Shelbyville
Shelbyville edged Cumberland 9-8 in nine innings Friday.
Cumberland held a 2-0 lead after three innings but Shelbyville tallied three in the bottom of the third to move ahead 3-2.
The Pirates came back with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 8-3. Shelbyville pulled within 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth and tied in the bottom of the seventh. The Rams then scored the winning run in the ninth.
Cumberland outhit Shelbyville by a 17-9 count but committed four errors.
The Pirates were led in hitting by Grady Jones with three singles and a double and Hudson McElravy with four singles and two RBI. Kade McMechan had a double and two RBI while Evan Davis had a single and double and Lance Lock a double and an RBI.

Dieterich fell to Robinson in a Friday contest by a 6-1 count.
Robinson took a 3-1 lead in the second and added on three more runs in the third and that was all the scoring.
The Maroons finished with five hits , all singles by Bryce Bohnhoff, Gavin Meinhart, Andrew Hall, Dom Ashley and Mason Lidy.
