Effingham Junior High School’s Calvin Beck and Levi Eckert combined to throw a no-hitter as the Mustangs won a baseball contest over Charleston by a 5-1 count Thursday.
Beck went the first four innings, giving up one run, walking two and striking out seven. Eckert threw the final three innings, giving up one walk and striking out two.
Beck and Eckert also led the team offensively. Beck had a single, double and one RBI while Eckert had a single, double and two RBI. Deek Thompson added a double while Kael Koeberlein and Roman Martin chipped in wtih two singles and an RBI each.

At Dieterich
South Central edged into a 2-0 opening inning lead and went on to hold off Dieterich by a 10-4 count Thursday.
Dieterich pulled within 3-2 in the third inning but South Central had a six-run fifth and tallied a final run in the sixth.
The winners had 10 hits and were aided by four Dieterich errors along with six walks.
B. Skibinski had two singles, a triple and two RBI for the winners while J. Smith added a triple and an RBI, N. Knutt a double and J. Guillion and L. Sporleder a single and an RBI each.
Dieterich was led by Callen Stortzum with a double and an RBI, Colten Keck with two singles and Chase Bohnhoff with a single and an RBI.
Skibinski tossed a five-hitter in 4.1 innings for the win. He gave up five walks and struck out four.

Cumberland came calling but Brownstown/St. Elmo sent the visitors home with an 11-7 loss Thursday.
BSE edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second, then had five-run innings in the third and fourth.
The winners had 12 hits led by Jake Schaub with three singles, a double and two RBI, Fred Towler had a single, double and an RBI, Lucas Miller a single and double and Drayden Bogart with a single and two RBI.
Cumberland ‘s B. Clapp had a single, home run and three RBI and G. Murphy and J. Sherrick with two singles each.
Schaub picked up the win, going the first four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City moved its record to 7-9-1 on the season with an 11-1 victory over Altamont Thursday.
Brody Cox started for the Bobcats. The starter surrendered three hits and one run in 4 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking one in earning the win.
Curtis Bethal had a tremendous day at the plate, nearly hitting for the cycle. He collected a single, double and triple and finished with an RBI. Tyce Kircher and Brody Cox each hit a double. Kircher added a single and two RBI while Cox had two RBI. Ben Noble, Tryston Brown and Hank Shields had a single adn an RBI each.
Altamont finished with three hits, all singles.

Teutopolis trailed by as many as four runs, but came back to defeat Salem Franklin Park, 7-6 Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes opened the scoring in the first after Mason Giles drew a walk, scoring one run. The score stood that way until the fourth when Franklin Park tallied four runs then tacked on another in the fifth to lead 5-1.
T-town jumped into the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Max Bloemer, singled, scoring two runs, Brock Witges singled scoring one run and Kason Meyer hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Owen Wermert earned the win for the Shoes. The reliever allowed two hits and one run over two innings.
The Wooden Shoes finished with 11 hits led by Witges with three singles and two RBI, Meyer with a double and two RBI, Giles with a double and Connor Althoff with two singles.
