TEUTOPOLIS — Teutopolis High School won the Wooden Bat Baseball Tournament Saturday with games heard on 979XFM.
Coach Justin Fleener’s crew opened by blanking Effingham St. Anthony 5-0. The Shoes edged ahead 1-0 in the second, then added three in the fifth around another run in the sixth.
The Shoes had six hits led by Jason Kreke with three singles and two RBI. Gavin Addis finished with a double and an RBI while Austin Borries had a single and an RBI.
Addis went all seven innings on the mound for the victory. He struck out 14 batters in the game while giving up only four hits and three walks.
St. Anthony was led by Alex Mayer, Charley Spour, Hayden Bushur and Will Bierman with a single each.
The second game went to North Clay/Clay City over Dieterich. The Cardinals moved into a 2-0 lead in the second, tacked on five in the third and never looked back in the 12-1 victory.
North Clay/Clay City finished with 10 hits and was aided by three Dieterich errors and nine walks.
Carder Walden hit two doubles and drove in a run while Trevan Sidwell had a double. Ian Jones added two singles and two RBI while C. Lewis had two singles and an RBI. Cody Zimdars had a single and two RBI while Ben Czyzewski finished with a single and an RBI.
Dieterich had only three hits. Bryce Bohnhoff had a double. Gavin Meinhart added an RBI.
Teutopolis took on North Clay/Clay City for the championship and tallied a 5-3 victory.
The Wooden Shoes’ Worman and Aiden Niemerg tossed a four hitter. Worman went 6.1 innings for the victory. He gave up three runs on four hits, three walks and struck out six. Niemerg came on to get the final two outs.
T-town had seven hits. Aidan Niemerg had a triple and an RBI while Borries finished with a single, a double and two RBI and Nolan Schumacher with a single, double and an RBI. Addis tallied a single and an RBI.
The Wooden Shoes are now 5-0 on the season. The Shoes are back in action today hosting Altamont.
North Clay/Clay City was led by Trenton Ingram with a double and an RBI and Zimdars with a single and two RBI.
In the third place contest, St. Anthony came out a 6-2 winner over Dieterich. The Bulldogs jumped on Dieterich in the first inning, scoring five runs and tacked on a final run in the sixth.
Both teams had four hits. Aiden Lauritzen led St. Anthony with a single, double and an RBI. Will Bierman had a single and two RBI while Xander Beals, Spour and Rogan Allen added an RBI each.
Dieterich was led by Andrew Hall with a double and Gavin Meinhart with two singles.
Beals went the distance for the Bulldogs. He gave up two runs on four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
