Effingham Sacred Heart came out on top Wednesday, defeating Teutopolis by a 6-2 count behind strong pitching and timely hitting in junior high baseball.
The Shamrocks struck first with two runs in the opening inning and never looked back, adding single runs in the third and fourth before sealing the win with a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Sacred Heart ended with 10 hits. Chris Kenter set the tone, scoring three runs and collecting a single and double. Gabe Traub had a big day with two singles, a triple and drove in two runs.
Starting pitcher Bryce Hayes helped his own cause with two hits and two RBI. Reuben Jansen also contributed a pair of hits.
On the mound, Hayes was dominant , throwing five innings of one-hit ball while striking out 10. Traub came in to close it out, striking out five over the final two innings without allowing a hit. The Shamrocks’ pitching staff combined to hold T-town to just a single hit on the day.
For the Shoes, Connor Althoff picked up the single.

At Brownstown
Brownstown/St. Elmo trailed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 3-1 after the opening inning. But that didn’t last long.
BSE came back with two runs to tie the score in the second then tallied three runs in the third and four in the fourth for a 10-7 victory.
BSE had eight hits and was aided by four CHBC errors. Schnarre and L. Miller finished with two doubles and an RBI each to provide the big bats in the lineup. Morrison added a single, double and two RBI while Bogart and Wright had a single and an RBI each.
Curtis Bethel provided pop for the Bobcats in the lineup with a single, double and three RBI. Luke Roadarmel added a single and two RBI and Brody Cox a double.
“Elliot Thull pitched great for us today, but we did not give him a lot of support in the field,” said CHBC Coach John Brown. “Tryston Brown also pitched well. Curtis continues to impress with his hitting and speed on the base paths. Brody Cox made some remarkable plays in the field today including spearheading a double play. Luke Roadarmel has really been a clutch hitter for us and he showed that again today. We are proud of how we battled back in this game and made it close.”

Cumberland stepped out to a 2-0 opening inning lead but that was all the runs the squad scored in a 10-2 loss to Marshall Wednesday.
Marshall came back with a run in the third and moved into a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth and never looked back.
Cumberland finished with six hits. B. Clapp had a double while G. Murphy contributed two singles. A. Dittamore had a single and an RBI.
Dittamore was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, three walks and striking out two.
