TEUTOPOLIS — Teutopolis jumped on Effingham St. Anthony in the first inning and went on to win by a 7-0 count in high school baseball Wednesday in a game heard on 979XFM.
The Bulldogs put a runner on in the top of the first. With two outs, Aiden Lauritzen singled but was left stranded.
But the Wooden Shoes pushed across four runs in the bottom of the frame. Davin Worman, Aiden Niemerg and Jason Kreke drew back-to-back-to-back walks. Austin Borries then followed with a single, scoring two runs. Nolan Schumacher reached base on a fielder’s choice. Gavin Addis followed by drawing the fourth walk of the inning. With two outs, Bryce Niebrugge followed with a single scoring two more runs for the 4-0 Wooden Shoes lead.
The Shoes rumbled again in the second, putting two runners on base but couldn’t score.
St. Anthony, meanwhile, went up and down in order in the second and third innings. In the fourth Lauritzen drew a walk but was out on a fielder’s choice by Charlie Spour. Spour was left on base with the final out.
In the bottom of the fourth, T-town pushed its lead to 7-0. Worman drew a walk, stole second and went to third on an error. He came home on a wild pitch. Niemerg reached base on an error. With one out, Borries followed with a home run.
The Bulldogs had only a few more runners on base. Meyer reached on an error and Lauritzen was hit by a pitch. But the pair were left stranded in the sixth. In the seventh, Rogen Allen and Freddie Jansen drew walks in the seventh but were also left on base.
Niemerg was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, giving up one hit, one walk while striking out four. Hayden Tebbe came on to go the final three innings, giving up two walks while striking out six.
St. Anthony’s lone hit was a single by Lauritzen. The Bulldogs went through four pitchers who gave up a combined total of seven walks while striking out six.
The Bulldogs drop to 1-1 on the season. St. Anthony returns to play Friday against North Clay.
Teutopolis improved to 2-0 and is back in action today hosting Neoga.

At Bluford
South Central picked up its first victory of the season Wednesday with a 10-2 win over Webber Township (Bluford).
The Cougars got off to a quick start as Aiden Hoover had a leadoff single and Hudson Moore drew walk. Both scored on a line drive by Kaiden Harrell that resulted in an error and the Cougars held a 2-0 lead. A single by Luke Shumate and a walk to Sebastian Kruger loaded the bases. Isaac Guerrettaz then singled home two runs and the Cougars held a 4-0 opening inning lead.
Chase Guerrettaz reached base on an error in the second and Hudson Moore singled. Shumate brought both runners home on a line drive single to right field and South Central. The Cougars tacked on one more run in the inning on another Webber error and they led 7-0.
An RBI groundout by Harrell and an RBI single from Shumate pushed the lead to 9-0 in the third before Webber was able to keep South Central off the board in the fourth and fifth innings.
A final run for the Cougars came in the top of the sixth for a 10-0 lead. But Webber Township avoided the 10-run rule with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Moore got the win on the mound. He went five scoreless inings with 10 strikeouts.
South Central is now 1-3 on the season and won’t return to action until Tuesday at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
