CHICAGO — Freddy Peralta had Chicago’s number Monday as the Milwaukee Brewers continued to push their lead in the National League Central Division higher.

Peralta only allowed the Cubs one hit and struck out six as the Brewers blanked the Cubs 7-0 in the first game of what was supposed to be a doubleheader. The second game was rained out and pushed to today with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

Peralta went six innings for a 15-5 record and now has a 2.78 ERA.

The Brewers, meanwhile, went on the offensive against Cubs’ pitcher Cade Horton. Brice Turang hit a home run in the third.

The Cubs could have tied or taken the lead in the fourth. Peralta faltered and walked the bases loaded with only one out. But he got a strike out against Owen Caissie and finished the inning as Nico Hoerner was retired.

The Cubs are now nine games behind the Brewers.

At Miami

St. Louis ended a five-game losing streak with an 8-3 victory over Miami Monday.

The Cardinals scored in the top of the fifth. Pedro Pages drew a walk with one out. He went to second on a fielding error on a ball hit by Nathan Church. A wild pitch advanced both runners. Lars Nootbaar then singled, Pages scored and Church went to third. Nootbaar took second on a wild pitch and Ivan Herrera drew a walk.

Alec Burleson had an infield single and Church scored while Herrera went to second and Nootbarr to third. Willson Contreras hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield and Nootbaar scored.

Miami led 1-0 after the first inning then tallied one in the fourth and tied in the sixth.

St. Louis moved ahead in the seventh with a run as Herrera was safe on a fielding error and was safe at second on another error. Burleson then singled to centerfield and Herrera scored.

The Cardinals then tallied another run in the eighth and finished out with three in the ninth.
