ST. LOUIS — Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman hit singles in the seventh inning and the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Chicago Cubs, 3-2 Sunday night.
The score was tied at 2-2 going into the seventh. Willson Contreras struck out and Alec Burleson popped out. Walker then singled to centerfield and stole second. Gorman singled to right field and Walker scored.
The Cardinals had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning and the Cubs tied it in the fifth.
Thomas Saggese singled off Imanaga to start The third. Then Pedro Pages homered to left center.
The Cubs had an opportunity in the fourth as Pete Crow-Armstrong singled and picked up his 30th steal when he stole second. But Gray picked him off with a throw to shortstop Masyn Winn.
That lead lasted until the fifth. With one out, Dansby Swanson was safe at first on a throwing error by Gorman. Matt Shaw then followed with a homer to left center and the Cubs tied the game.
Jo Jo Romero tossed the last 1 1/3 innings for his third save.
The game was the rubber match as the Cardinals won 5-0 on Friday while the Cubs took the Saturday contest 9-1.
The Cardinals are back in action today against the Colorado Rockies.
The Cubs don’t return to play until Tuesday at Toronto.
