CHICAGO — Down they went again. The Chicago Cubs fell to Cincinnati once again as Zack Littell kept them in check on the mound for a 5-1 Reds victory Tuesday.

Littell struck out eight, gave up three hits and only walked two as he held them to one run in seven innings.

The Cubs came up with only four hits while Cincinnati banged out nine. Matt Shaw hit a homer for the lone run of the game in the fifth.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati scored a run in the fifth. With one out, Miguel Andujar doubled and Spencer Steer followed with a single and suddenly the Reds were up 1-0.

The Cubs tied in the bottom of the frame. But here came the Reds in the seventh with four runs. With one out, Austin Hays drew a walk and Andujar singled. With two out, Steer hit a home run shot to left centerfield for three runs. Noelvi Marte hit a double and Jose Trevino followed with a single. Santiago Espinal hit a sacrifice fly and Marte scored.

Andujar finished with two hits after being traded to the Reds. TJ Frield also had two hits.

The Cubs’ Shota Imanaga struck out seven, gave up three hits and a run in 6 1/3 innings.

In the series finale today, the Cubs will go with Cade Horton on the mound while the Reds put Andrew Abbott in that spot.

At Los Angeles

Los Angeles and St. Louis were tied at 2-2 in the second inning. But the Dodgers put together three more innings with runs to claim a 12-6 victory Tuesday.

The Dodgers moved ahead with two runs in the opening inning. Shohei Ohtani doubled and Mookie Betts grounded out to push the runner to third. Freddie Freeman hit a sacrifice fly and Ohtani scored. Max Munch then came up with his first of two home runs in the contest.

But the Cardinals retaliated in the top of the second. Willson Contreras reached base on an error. With two outs, Nolan Gorman hit a 425 foot shot and the score was tied.

The Dodgers moved into a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third. Betts doubled. With one out, Munch homered to right center followed by Teoscar Hernandez with a home run.

St. Louis came back with a run in the seventh. Gorman and Yohel Pozo hit back-to-back singles. Brendan Donovan hit into a fielder’s choice as Pozo was thrown out at second. Gorman went to third. Ivan Herrera then singled and Gorman scored.

The Cardinals also tallied a run in the eighth as Contreras homered to centerfield.

The two teams meet again today as the Cardinals go with Matthew Liberatore on the mound while Ohtani gets the nod for the Dodgers.
