 Yohel Pozo’s Single Gives Cardinals Victory, Reds Edge Cubs 3-2

LOS ANGELES — With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Yohel Pozo hit a single with two outs to push St. Louis into a 3-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

That proved to be the winning run as the Cardinals claimed the victory Monday.

St. Louis had moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Masyn Winn homered 389 feet over the left field wall.

But the Dodgers came back with a run in the bottom of the fourth. That’s where it stood until the Cardinals moved ahead 2-1 in the top of the eighth.

With two outs, Ivan Herrera hit a home run 428 feet to center.

But once again, the Dodgers came back to knot the score in the bottom of the frame.

Then it was the Cardinals turn again as Willson Contreras singled to right field. Lars Nootbarr followed with a single to centerfield and Garrett Hampson, running for Contreras, went to third. With two outs, Pozo singled and Hampson scored for the go-ahead run.

St. Louis had seven hits in the contest while the Dodgers finished with only three.

 

At Chicago

TJ Friedl singled in the top of the seventh to bring home Jake Fraley for what proved to be the game-winning run as Cincinnati edged the Cubs 3-2 Monday.

The Reds took an early lead with a run in the second inning as Tyler Stephenson hit a home run.

But the Cubs came back with two in the third inning. Ian Happ singled to right field and Dansby Swanson hit a home run off Nick Martinez.

Cincinnati then tied in the sixth. Matt McClain had an infield single. Elly De La Cruz doubled to left and McClain crossed the plate.

The Reds finished with six hits while the Cubs had only three.

Both teams went through six pitchers.

Shota Imanaga starts for Chicago tonight while Zack Littell with go to the mound for Cincinnati.
