 St. Louis Cardinals Make Some Deals Before Deadline

The New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals made a trade deal Wednesday.

The Mets acquired Ryan Helsley, a two-time  All-Star reliever, from the Cardinals for three minor league players.

Helsley was a bullpen arm, recording a 3.00 ERA with 21 saves.

The Cardinals acquired third baseman Jesus Baez and right-handers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt in the deal.

St. Louis also dealt with the Boston Red Sox.

The two teams struck a deal as the Red Sox acquired left-hander Steven Matz from the Cardinals for minor league first baseman Blaze Jordan.

Matz has been working out of the bullpen for the Cardinals but also has starting experience on the mound. He has a 3.44 ERA in 55 innings, striking out 47.

The Cardinals got Jordan, 22 years old, a first basemen who started the season at Double-A and earned Triple-A status in June. He has 12 home runs and 61 RBI with a .304 battling average.
