 Marlins Blank Cardinals, Brewers Take Second Win Over Cubs, MLB Roundup

ST. LOUIS — The Miami Marlins did it offensively and defensively in a 5-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday.

The Marlins struck in the second inning, scoring two runs. With one out, Troy Johnston singled. With two outs, Graham Pauley hit a 384 foot home run to right field, his first of the season, and suddenly the Marlins held the lead.

That’s where the scoring stood until the fifth when the Marlins tacked on another run. With two outs, Kyle Stowers doubled and came home on a single by Otto Lopez.

Miami held a 5-0 lead, scoring two more in the sixth. Dane Myers singled. With two outs, Eric Wagaman doubled and Myers scored. Then Xavier Edwards came up to hit a triple and Wagaman scored.

Sandy Alcantara tossed five innings, not allowing the Cardinals to score. He gave up only three hits and walked three. He struck out four.

The Cardinals had only four hits in the contest and struck out 10 times.

The two teams will meet again today at 6:45 p.m. as Miles Mikolas takes the mound for the Cardinals and Cal Quantrill for the Marlins.

 

At Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Brewers have the Chicago Cubs’ on the run.

The Brewers picked up a second victory in the three-game series by a 9-3 count Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the second inning. Pete Crow-Armstrong drew a walk. He took second as Nico Hoerner singled to centerfield. Ian Happ lined out and Crow-Armstrong moved to third and came home on a fielder’s choice as Dansby Swanson grounded out to third.

But the Brewers came back to tie the score. Andrew Vaughn and Isaac Collins hit back-to-back singles and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Brice Turang. Anthony Seigler then hit a sacrifice fly to center and Vaughn scored.

Milwaukee moved into a 2-1 lead in the third then came a three-run fifth and a four-run sixth when Vaughn hit a grand slam.

The two teams meet in the third game today at 1:10 p.m.
