MILWAUKEE — The Chicago Cubs took a 3-0 opening inning lead but that didn’t last long as the Milwaukee Brewers went on for an 8-4 victory Monday.
The Brewers pushed ahead with a four-run third then added on single runs in the fifth and sixth and two more in the seventh behind a 10-hit attack.
The Cubs finished with six hits. In the first inning, Michael Brummer singled to centerfield. Kyle Tucker drew a walk. Seiya Suzuki reached on an infield single and the bases were loaded. Pete Crow-Armstrong struck out swinging, Busch scored, Suzuki went to second and Tucker to third on a wild pitch.
Ian Happ reached on a single, Tucker scored and Suzuki scored on a throwing error making it 3-0.
But Milwaukee came back with the four-run third and went on for the victory.
The Cubs scored a single run in the seventh. Hoerner singled. Busch was hit by a pitch and Hoerner moved to second. Tucker then singled to center scoring Hoerner.
Milwaukee came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
At St. Louis
St. Louis finished with eight hits and Miami had three errors as the Cardinals claimed an 8-4 victory Monday.
The Cardinals moved into a 1-0 lead in the third when Alec Burleson homered to centerfield.
They came back to move ahead 2-0 in the fourth. with two outs, Yohel Pozo doubled and then scored on a throwing error by catcher Agustin Ramirez.
They put the contest totally away with a five-run seventh. With one out, Victor Scott II doubled then stole third. Brendan Donovan and Ivan Herrera drew a walk each.
Burleson reached first on catcher’s interference and Scott II scored. Garrett Hampson, who came in to run for Herrera, went on to scone and Donovan moved to third. Masyn Winn doubled to left field. Burleson scored on an error and Donovan and Hampson scored and Winn was safe at third on the fielding error by left fielder Ronny Hernandez. Jordan Walker then doubled and Winn scored.
