 Homers Big Factor In Cardinals Win Over Padres, MLB Weekend Schedule

ST. LOUIS — The second inning was a big one for the St. Louis Cardinals as they tallied a 9-7 victory over San Diego Thursday.

The Cardinals trailed San Diego 2-1 after the first inning but had a six-run second inning behind two home runs. In the first inning, Willson Contreras doubled scoring Brendan Donovan.

Then came the second when Donovan hit a three-run shot driving in Jordan Walker and Victor Scott II. Contreras also hit a homer, 415 feet, scoring Ivan Herrera and Alec Burleson.

San Diego came back with a three-run third to pull within 7-5. The Cardinals then scored a run in the fourth to pull ahead 8-5.

The Padres had a two-run fifth and trailed 8-7. St. Louis tallied another run in the sixth when Herrera hit a 412 homer to centerfield.

Sonny Gray was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. He went five innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits. He did not give up a walk and struck out five.

The Cardinals are back in action today, hosting San Diego in a 7:15 p.m. contest.

 

At Chicago

It’s all Chicago as the Cubs travel across town to take on the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park.

Game time today is 6:10 p.m. The Cubs and White Sox meet at 6:10 Saturday and finish out with a 1:10 p.m. contest Sunday.
