DENVER — Colorado’s Tanner Gordon kept the St. Louis Cardinals off the basepaths and tossed six scoreless innings as the Rockies blanked the Cardinals 6-0 Wednesday.
Gordon threw a four-hitter. He allowed three walks and struck out three to improve to 2-2 on the season. Jimmy Herget came in to throw two innings giving up a hit and Tyler Kinley came on in the ninth to go 1-2-3 against the Cardinals for the shutout.
The Rockies took the early lead, scoring four runs in the second.
Colorado tallied single runs in the fifth and eighth innings finishing with 12 hits. Ezequiel Tovar hit a solo home run. Hunter Goodman had two singles while Jordan Beck had a single, double and an RBI.
St. Louis had five hits led by Jordan Walker and Willson Contreras with a double each.
The Cardinals are back in action hosting San Diego today at 6:45 p.m.
At Chicago
Kansas City had four home runs and handed the Chicago Cubs an 8-4 loss Wednesday.
Vinnie Pasquantino led the way for the Royals with two home runs and four RBI. Salvador Perez added a home run and two RBI while Tyler Tolbert had a home run and two RBI. Those three were the only players to have a hit for the Royals.
The Cubs, meanwhile, finished with seven hits that included two home runs. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw hit solo shots. Kelly Carson had a double and an RBI while Reese McGuire had a single and an RBI.
Colin Rea suffered the loss on the mound to drop to 6-4. He went five innings, allowing six runs on six hits and three strikeouts. He did not walk a batter.
The Cubs have today off before going into a series with the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park starting Friday.
